The musician that continues to inspire every generation of axe slingers that follows him is represented quite positively on THE ULTIMATE EXPERIENCE. Beginning with Dylan's "All Along The Watchtower," the listener is thrust into Jimi's world. While the radio staples are included here ("Purple Haze" and "Foxy Lady"), the lesser known but equally amazing tunes are here as well ("Angel," "Castles Made Of Sand"). Going the blues route as only Hendrix can, "Red House" is a tribute to the artists that preceded him.Two live tracks close the package, "Star Spangled Banner" and "Wild Thing," showing the man at his most creative and furious. Although there was initially some dispute as to the remastering authenticity of the album's remastering, the sound quality is quite good. With extensive liner notes by Rob Partridge, THE ULTIMATE EXPERIENCE is just that, the cream of Hendrix's crop, and material that shall remain timeless.

An Intriguing Experience

Created: 11/01/10
Ultimate ?
Well, no, not exactly. Even twenty tracks can't do justice to Jimi. You really need all three of Jimi's Experience LPs (or CDs) to grasp the breadth and depth of Jimi's work:

ARE YOU EXPERIENCED ?
AXIS: BOLD AS LOVE
ELECTRIC LADYLAND

and to that I would add RADIO ONE, or the even more complete BBC SESSIONS for the early tracks recorded live in the BBC studios (and a couple of other places).

For a one CD compilation I would have swapped out Angel, Wait Until Tomorrow, Star Spangled Banner, and Wild Thing for Remember, Love Or Confusion, Come On, and I Don't Live Today, and had someone else write the liner notes.
Still...
This CD is still a nice overview; and you get a fantastic assortment of songs. It's worth every penny of the cost.

Five stars easily.

Jimi Hendrix

I love Jimi Hendrix. Jimi was a true master of the guitar. This album is one of my favorites. I love all of the songs on it, especially Hey Joe, Red House, and All Along The Watchtower. The way this album is recorded is just awesome almost magical. Jimi didn't think that he could sing very well but I love his voice.
Too bad he isn't still with us.

This is an awesome cd if you're into Jimi. It's got all the classic Hendrix songs which adds up for a good compilation. I recommend adding it to your collection.

Essential Hendrix material

Created: 01/03/07
I love just about everything that Jimi recorded but don't have anything on CD. This is a compilation of his most popular songs which are all great. It definately fills a gap in my listening collection. I love to play along with this CD. I also love the long involved songs and live jams that are not on this CD so I'll probably be shopping for those type recordings in the future.

Ultimately lives up to it's name...

Created: 07/01/10
This CD was purchased for my son who has been playing guitar for years. It truly lives up to it's name as the "Ultimate" Jimi Hendrix CD. There are other "best of" discs out there but this is the best collection for both guitarists and fans. This is an excellent CD for those who want to study Jimi or for those who simply enjoy listening to his music.
