The Ultimate Matrix Collection (DVD, 2004, 10-Disc Set)

These are in the widescreen format. I have all 3 movies in the old fullscreen format, but I still acquired these. I enjoy watching every few months again and again. Picture quality is only as good as your Flat screen TV, but that means GREAT! Because of the original surround sound mix, it still is tough to hear the dialog over the music and sound effects. I wish it was the other way around, or at least equal in volume. Still I love them, as well as the other bonus materials. Especially, ANIMATRIX. These animations are essential to understanding some of the background to the story, as well, as being eye candy. These are basically adult [as opposed to children] in nature. Essentially, this set is for the believer in the premise of the "matrix" series. We trully are living in an illusion set forth by the wizards behind the curtains. Many of the symbolism gives us a better understanding of the big picture or the "truth" of reality. As a result, these movies helps us vicariously feel empowered to resist. As must in your library. Otherwise, it's a great collector's item. Enjoy!

Hello, I haven't even completely watched this collection yet and I can already tell you that it's worth every cent that was paid for it. In my humble opinion this is the pinnacle of United States movie making. Not to mention the extra DVD paired with the trilogy called the Animatrix. The Japanese have true skill when it comes to putting a great science fiction world into a work of art like the Animatrix. I especially like the extra behind the scenes footage of the kung fu specialists and their influence on the cast of actors and actresses. To sum up this review, if you can find this collection and can afford it... Buy it!!!

These movies were a present for my boyfriend, so I had him help me write this review, and he said, "I love these movies, and have wanted to buy the Matrix trilogy for a few years. I liked the bonus features that it includes, virtually for free, and the box design is pretty sweet." The 10 DVDs (the 3 original Matrix movies, with a documentary on each, plus the Animatrix, and three DVDs about the Matrix universe) are either entertaining, informative, or both, and it has provided us with hours of movie-watching fun. The Animatrix, however, I could have lived without. A good buy for any Matrix fan.
