Ultimate Spider-Man (Xbox, 2005)

I thought the first two 3D Spiderman games were ok but needed some serious improvements. Although this latest version is not perfect I think they have gotten pretty close to making the Ultimate Spiderman Game.

Graphics- 9/10 - The cell shaded look of the game is done well and gives ther feeling that you are playing inside of a comic book world. The framerate is smooth and the story cutscenes look great. I play this on my xbox 360 and have noticed a few glitches but they don't ruin the gameplay at all. This game almost looks as good as the animated series that was on MTV a few years ago. Overall i think the graphics in this game are done very well.

Story- 8/10 - You play as both Spiderman and Venom and each has there own storyline in the game. I havnt beat this game yet but so far the story is good and the presentation is done well. There are alot of characters from the Marvel Universe that cross your path too. My opinion my change after i finish the game but so far it's good.

Gameplay- 8/10 - The webslinging, fighting and wallcrawling are all simple to do and make playing the game alot of fun. The game structure allows you to do what you like when you like. You can just swing around the city exploring and finding hidden items or helping the citizens. You can also do challenges like fighting a series of bad guys, racing through the city against The Human Torch or getting your best times reaching the big orbs scattered around the environment or you can continue the story mode. This is where the game kinda falls short, the racing and side missions are not that great compared to the action of the story mode but they do add to the game, they just need to be made a little more interesting. Basically the side missions are just put in there to extend the length of the game.

Sound- 7/10 - The voice over is done well in the story mode and is where most of the sound work was used but the city itself seems a bit lifeless and could have been improved upon with more environmental sound effects. The sound in the game is OK but it could have been done better.

Overall- 8/10 - So this may not be the Ultimate game ever made but I think this is still the best Spiderman game ever made and even though it could still be improved I have fun playing it and thats the most important thing. So if you ever wanted to experience what being spiderman is like this is the game i recommend.

This game takes you straight into the comic book not the movie. This game has all the Villians and for an added twist they allow you to play as Venom. This game is the best free roam game so far. This game includes tons of mini games throughout the city which in itself is big to roam around in. They also allow you to collect vintage comic book art throughout the game. This game has great graphic, great gameplay, great story line. This game is worth the money spent and time invested in playing. I was not disappointed and i don't think you will be either.

I agree with some of the previous reviews, the game is too short. But as a bonus, there are countless side missions and things to find in this ENORMOUS enviornment. The game presents the big parts of New York City on a massive scale. And guess what? All of it is accessible. If I had to pick the most accessible game out right now this would be second ONLY to Godfather. Better than GTA and any other hero adventure game. The game does not fallow the storyline of the movies, but the events origionally written in the Comic Books. This introduces a new style of gameplay that can be considered more "cartoony", but infact, it makes the graphics look astonishing when you aren't rating them soley on their realism. A 5 out of 5 on presentation, but you should be able to battle ALL of the villians and not just the most popular. Oh, and I almost forgot. If any of you have ever play The Incredible Hulk: Ulitmate Destruction, playing this game as Venom is basically the same thing, only you get to jump 3 times as HIGH! It's very addicting. The game is worth buying.

They use the word "Ultimate" loosely . The game is entertaining but not as fun as the other Spiderman XBOX games . The vine swingging is exciting ! but the game just doesn't flow from stage to stage very well . If you have beaten the other super hero games and have run out of others similar this will fill in nice til new ones are released .Graphics are not "Reach out and grab you " which is what can make or break the success of any video game .

The good:
The gameplay was a lot of fun and still is, even after I beat the main story. The environment gives a lot of room to go exploring and finding all of the hidden tokens (there are a lot of them) is a fun diversion if/when you want to take a break from the storyline. I liked Spider-man's fighting style, and rewarding the player for evenly distributing the pain among a group of enemies introduced a bit of flair and strategy into the fights instead of simply trading punches.

The bad:
The storyline is short, and I spent a lot of time simply chasing after enemies during story missions. In these chase scenes, a single mistake can force you to repeat the entire mission, which is frustrating if you had made a lot of progress beforehand. Also, Venom can be hard to control and I found that all of his fights can be easily won from a distance by repeating a single move, making his fights kind of boring.

Overall:
The good outweighed the bad; I enjoyed it.
