Album Notes
Scorpions: Klaus Meine (vocals); Rudolf Schenker (guitar, acoustic guitar, background vocals); Matthias Jabs (acoustic guitar, electric guitar, slide guitar, voice box); Paul Maciwoda (bass guitar); James Kottak (drums, background vocals).Additional personnel: Koen VanBaal (keyboards); Barry Sparks, Ingo Powitzer (bass guitar); Ralph deJongh, Joss Mennen, Alex Jansen (background vocals). The Scorpions' latest studio outing comes on the heels of their triple-disc career retrospective, Box of Scorpions. For fans who view that box set's third disc -- mostly material from the mid- to late '90s -- as a meandering collection of wince-inducing ballads and orchestral experiments gone awry, their latest offering should come as a huge relief. Their celebrated talents for big licks, bigger choruses, and simple lyrics about world unification and "rocking you" are remarkably well executed on Unbreakable, their 20th studio album. The production strikes a winning balance between mid-'80s excess and tight nu-metal guitar, resulting in one of the heavier records they've done in quite some time. Singer Klaus Meine's voice has aged gracefully, retaining the raucous snarl that fueled hits like "No One Like You," while attaining a rich, fully rounded cadence on the beautiful new ballad "Maybe I Maybe You." Unbreakable was recorded live in the studio, and it shows on the brutal standouts "Love 'Em or Leave 'Em" and "Borderline" -- the latter being one of the more inventive and memorable of their career. The record acts as a bridge between hard rock generations, and is perhaps the first step in handing over their legacy to the myriad of young bands that have basked in the veteran group's light for so long, but if they continue to make records as lively and skilled as this, that transfer could be a long time coming. ~ James Christopher Monger

Unbelievable!

Created: 06/01/09
I had lost the jewel case for my first Scorpions "Unbreakable" CD (and the CD got damaged!)and knew that eBay would be the best place to find another copy - FAST!
If you like straight-ahead, uncompromising ROCK AND ROLL with a slight heavy metal twist, then this record is for you! The disc has a cool DVD feature of the band recording the CD, along with some photos of tours and historical events from their past.
But it's the music that really does it.
It has the kind of tracks that you can TURN UP LOUD and appreciate the chords and beat. No bad tracks, no wasted time-just real world-class hard driving rock music. Did I mention it was recorded live in the studio and not just programmed?
You can tell from the sonics that it was done in this manner.
The Scorpions latest CD ("Humanity...")was not quite up to par compared to "Unbreakable" but here's hoping they get back on track next time!

After 2000's solid CRAZY WORLD release, the SCORPIONS went off the tracks a bit, releasing the less than stellar FACE THE HEAT & PURE INSTINCT studio albums and the off the mark live release LIVE BITES. With the 2004 release titled UNBREAKABLE, the band got back on solid footing and we Scorps fans rejoiced. Standout tracks include the opener "New Generation", the hit single "Love 'Em or Leave 'Em", plus "Maybe I Maybe You", "Someday Is Now" & "She Said". I must admit that there isn't one fabulous, historic song on the Cd, this isn't BLACKOUT or LOVEDRIVE or even LOVE AT FIRST STING, but UNBREAKABLE is a solid Cd. I give it a deserved 4 out of 5 stars. ROCK ON, longliveneil

Another great job, the great return of Scorpions to the studios.
Special prominence to the songs "New Generation", "Borderline", "My City My Town" and "Trough My Eyes".

Love this CD. I started to look for new one after finding out that Unbreakable isn't if you step on it. Was thrilled to find this one, new and at a great price. Very happy.
