Straight on.

I wanted this children's classic for two reasons. First, I am Southern and this book captures the dialect of the old South, especially the black dialect, like no other. Because of its publication date, its authenticity gives it more credibility whe discussing dialect. I am a high school English teacher who is required to incorporate dialect through State Standards. What better way to illustrate to show where we come from as a state through our use of both the spoken adn written word than this. It also offers the chance to teach about the aspect of bias. Second, it is a banned book undeservingly so. No one person or group should have the right to tell the state or nation that they can or cannot read literature. Literature affects history and history affects literature!!
