Album Notes
Fall Out Boy: Patrick Stump (vocals); Joe Trohman (guitar); Pete Wentz (bass guitar); Andrew Hurley (drums).Fall Out Boy cooks up an immediately digestible combination of crunching rock, highly melodic songwriting, and expressive singing on 2005's FROM UNDER THE CORK TREE, the Chicago unit's first release on Island, and its most accomplished to date. Building on an instrumental foundation that owes debts to both hardcore (drummer Andy Hurley has a thunderous, bass-drum-heavy approach that gives the band tremendous muscle) and indie rock (guitarist Joe Trohman peels off melodic solos), Fall Out Boy packs quite a sonic punch. However, it is the group's songcraft that impresses the most. Each of CORK TREE's 13 tracks is rife with pop hooks. From the churning chords and expansive chorus of the opener (cheekily titled "Our Lawyer Made Us Change the Name of This Song So We Wouldn't Get Sued"), through the brightly up-tempo "Sugar, We're Goin Down," to the minor-key "XO," CORK TREE is overflowing with potential hit singles. Singer/guitarist Patrick Stump's clear tenor and evocative lyrics (which balance confessionalism, metaphor, and witty cleverness) are the icing on this sweet punk-pop cake.

Editorial Reviews
3 stars out of 5 - [T]hanks to a lot of taut grooves and dense hooks, these Chicago kids' near-emo is always kind of charming.

Fall Out Boy

Created: 30/10/05
The four members of Chicago's Fall Out Boy came together in suburban Wilmette around 2000. Vocalist/guitarist Patrick Stump, bassist Peter Wentz, drummer Andrew Hurley, and guitarist Joseph Trohman had all been in and out of various units connected to Chicago's underground hardcore scene. Most notably, Hurley drummed for Racetraitor, the furiously political metal-core outfit whose brief output was both a rallying point and sticking point within the hardcore community. As Fall Out Boy, the quartet used the unbridled intensity of hardcore as a foundation for melody-drenched pop-punk with a heavy debt to the emo scene. They debuted with a self-released demo in 2001, following it up in May 2002 with a split LP on Uprising that also featured Project Rocket. The band returned on the label in January with the mini-LP Fall Out Boy's Evening Out With Your Girl, but by this point a bidding war of sorts was already in full swing. Fall Out Boy eventually signed a deal with Gainesville, FL's Fueled by Ramen, the label co-owned by Less Than Jake drummer Vinnie Balzano, but also received an advance from Island Records to record their proper debut. The advance came with a right of first refusal for Island on Fall Out Boy's next album, but it also financed the recording of Take This to Your Grave, which occurred at Butch Vig's Smart Studios compound in Madison, WI, with Sean O'Keefe (Lucky Boys Confusion, Motion City Soundtrack) at the helm. Grave appeared in May 2003, and Fall Out Boy garnered positive reviews for its gigs at South by Southwest and numerous tour appearances. The ambitious From Under the Cork Tree (Island) followed in spring 2005, and Fall Out Boy headed out on tour again

ATTENTION FALL OUT BOY FANS: buy this CD!

Created: 14/05/06
Any fan of Fall Out Boy, or other similar bands such as the All American Rejects, Hawthorne Heights, and Panic! At the Disco, will absolutely LOVE this CD. The gripping lyrics come alive with Patrick Stump's amazing vocals, and the songs will be remembered for their catchy beats. At first I decided to buy this CD because I liked "Sugar, We're Going Down", but once I bought it, I was a hooked Fall Out Boy fan. I became addicted to songs like "A Little Less 16 Candles, A Little More Touch Me", "Sophomore Slump or Comeback of the Year", and "XO." Once you buy this CD, you'll never want to stop playing it. Each song has it's own style, while each is tied together with unique (and sometimes bizarre) lyrics.

FOB CD

Created: 22/02/06
I have been a fall out boy fan ever since their garage band days of Chiago. They have a lot of talent and great live but they have never been able to translate the talent into one amazing cd. 2001's "Take This To your grave" was arguably close but lacked a couple other great songs. However, their new cd "From Under the Cork Tree" is one amazing cd. With chart topping solos such as "Dance,Dance", and "Sugar, We're going down" it DEFINTILY equals a great cd. The other 11 songs are amazing such as "XO" and "7 minutes in heaven". This is a must get CD.

One of the best CD's Ever

Fall Out Boy is a great band. Their lead singer/rythem guitarist Patrick Stump has an amazing voice. He also writes the music, which is wonderful. The lyrics written by bassist Pete Wentz, are very real and beautiful. This CD is great and I would recommend it to anyone.

Excellent sophomore album

Created: 21/04/09
From Under the Cork tree is an excellent addition to any FOB fan's library. The album maintains Fall Out Boy's unique sound and lyrics while showing the progress that one would expect to see on a band's second album. Patrick Stump's vocals are perfect and original, making Fall Out Boy stand out as one of the original pop-punk banks of the 2000's. Overall, a phenomenal rock album.
