A very clever, action filled adventure for the everyone
Created: 24/06/09
The very hilarious Jim Belushi who plays Dan Unger, shows his soft side at the start of this film which was a wonderful touch to the beginning of the film. In the vein of Babe, Beverly Hills Chihuahua, and Hotel For Dogs, These talking dogs are the funniest ever. The story begins with a normal, bumbling everyday bomb-sniffing watchdog beagle named Shoeshine who gets exposed to a substance that gives him the powers of a superhero. He is adopted by a security guard - an ex-cop, who's a widower with a 12-year-old moody son, Jack Unger. Shoeshine uses his superpower to protect his love and the citizens of Capitol City from the evil Simon Barsinister. Underdog dedicates himself to good, quickly becoming revered as a superhero, but ultimately it will take the combined efforts and understanding of Underdog, Jack, Dan, Molly, and Polly to defeat Barsinister and save Capital City from destruction. Jason Lee, who hasn't voiced for anything that I know, does a gruffy good job as the voice of Underdog.
I'll give this a 5/5 for excitement and adventure.

Snoopy isn't the only Beagle that can kick Butt

Occasionally, a film's trailer gives viewers a realistic preview. Such was the case with "Underdog". Here is a film with humor offered without the condescension and knowing winks delivered by Dreamworks Animation and its ilk. The story is a typical zap-the-hero setup and does not pretend to be otherwise.
The actors (human and animal alike) deliver professional performances. Peter Dinklage is delicious as the requisite mad scientist. James Belushi is surprisingly effective and believable as the dad. Unfortunately, Patrick Warburton has descended from acceptably quirky into shtick. Newcomer Alex Neuberger (in his second feature) gives his part a nice emotional balance and doesn't overplay his sidekick work.
The animal animation is nicely handled and devoid of gimmickry. This part of the movie industry deserves praise for continued development and polish.
Summers have blockbusters created by and viewed by blocks; Underdog reminds audiences that a simple, fun flick can be far more entertaining.

This one's a WINNER!

The story is based around a not-so-hot police dog who's literally laughed off of the force by his comrades. He's picked up by Barsinister and Cad and becomes Underdog through a lab accident. He escapes from Barsinister and is picked up by another has-been cop, James Belushi. He's taken in by Belushi and his son and begins to form a strong bond with the boy. The rest of the story centers around Barsinister trying to capture Underdog to use his powers to take over the city and, eventually, the world. Along the way Shoeshine/Underdog falls for Polly, his new family gets closer, and he struggles with a catchphrase.
Sure, the story is simplistic and entirely unbelievable, but this is still a very good DVD to watch with your children. Just know that all turns out well in the end and I promise that your kids will be smiling before the movie is over. My three year old twin boys stay glued to this from beginning to end!
Fans of the original series will probably cry foul over what has happened to their beloved Underdog. They do have a legitimate gripe but this film wasn't made to recall a ton of memories. It was made to draw in a modern crowd of youngsters and their families (some of which may not have even heard of the original show). The bottomline is this: It's a good family show that is enjoyable for both kids and their parents. Haggle over the changes if you must, but in the end, Disney has a winner with "Underdog.

My kids love Underdog

This is a cute story about a dog who fails as a police dog, gets kidnapped by a mad scientists for experiments, gets bullied by rottweilers, and can't get the affection of the puppy-girl he loves. Yet, because of the evil scientist, he becomes UNDERDOG with all sorts of superpowers - saving the day against the mad scientist's plot against everyone.
Yes, very cheesy.. however the story of the family he is adopted by, the friends he makes, the mistakes he overcomes, its very warm and fuzzy. Although I admit to being tired of seeing it 6 times a day, I really do enjoy the movie. I reccommend it fully.

Family Fun Movie

This is an adorable live-action movie, keeping in great part to the original animated series, including the original theme music. Highly recommended for the entire family; there is something for everyone at all age levels: cute dogs for the kids, a story line where the good guys win..and special effects that compliment the story.
