Unforgiven (HD DVD, 2006)

I saw this movie when it was first released. There are few movies I feel compelled to purchase, and this was one. No attempt to glorify or justify the very base actions of people living very harsh lives. I suspect this movie showed me the closest depiction of the true "wild west" I have ever seen (of course one can only speculate on this). Clint Eastwood was superb as always. Gene Hackman and Morgan Freeman can, and do, give remarkable performances in any role they take (Gene Hackman has been my favorite actor for many years). Richard Harris has never been one of my favorites, but his performance in this movie is great.

This 2006 issue High Definition DVD version of the movie is generally considered Clint Eastwood's definitive work. An excellent story and acting by all. Morgan Freeman has gained a lot of respect over the last few years and this film highlights this. I got the feeling that Gene Hackman stumbled into this movie and had his own vision of his role - he's really capable of better but it seems that he didn't apply himself 100%. This is one of those movies you'll remember for years. You need to review this film before letting non-adults watch it due to subject matter. Absolutely outstanding!

Clint Eastwood stars in the single greatest cowboy feature film of all time. I have seen too many films to write a comprehensive list here, but take it from me, this character driven film is the masterpiece of the genre!

I loved the older Clint Eastwood westerns better....
The characters in this were good, but there was no cut and dry bad guys except one...most of the Eastwood westerns had very cut and dry good guys and bad guys, this one left me a little confused.

Great movie! If you don't have a western in your collection I'd highly recommend this one.

The HD transfer is among the best of its time period. More recent movies captured with HD cameras and with the capabilities of the format in mind generally have a better video, however, TW did a great job transferring this film.
