Montreux Festival brings out the best
Created: 16/12/09
Each of the two discs offers some great Van Morrison. The 1980 disc has songs which are more recognizable. The price of tickets to see Van live now a days is robbery. This is a great alternative. A negative is that Van does not move around/get into the music/songs too much. The band does... Yet not him. There is also not interaction with the crowd. A plus is that as the years progressed, Van has mumbled more so. This is not prevalent on these discs.

WHAT CAN YOU SAY ABOUT VAN MORRISON, YOU EITHER LOVE HIM, OR HATE HIM,HE HAS A STYLE ALL HIS OWN.I WOULD SAY THAT THIS DVD MUSIC WISE IS VERY GOOD,VAN SURROUNDS HIMSELF WITH GOOD MUSICIANS, I PERSONALLY LIKE THE 1974 SHOW BETTER,EXCEPT FOR THE FIRST SONG HE PLAYS SAX ON, BUT THE 1980 SHOW HAS SOME GOOD VERSIONS OF SOME OF HIS BIGGER HITS.THE FILMING IS ABOUT WHAT I WOULD EXPECT FOR CONCERTS FILMED IN 1974 & 1980, FAIR

Van Morrison - Live at Montreux 1980 & 1974 (2006, DVD)
Created: 28/06/08
I have been a fan of Van the Man since the single, "Here Comes the Night" was released in London 1965 and have followed his career with interest. I especially enjoyed the [PBS?] documentary on his sojourn to the Mississippi Delta to meet, talk and sing with some older blues guys. Having seen him perform live more times than I can count, both in Europe and the USA, I think this DVD is an excellent presentation of two eras of his career: 1974 and 1980. Watching it brought back memories and happy reminiscences. I hope that more DVDs of his live performances will be released in the future for all of his fans to enjoy.

Van Morrison Live at Montreux 74 & 80

I'm a BIG time Van fan and the 80 Montreux performance on this DVD is a terrific performance with a great backing band. Considering the years (74 & 80) the quality of the picture/sound is excellent. After hearing/seeing these two I'm anxiously waiting for a DVD of his later performances at Montreux.
