Virtua Fighter 4 (Playstation 2)

Created: 26/01/08
I just bought this game from a great seller. After thinking and debating that I needed a new fighting game for my ps2... I thought I would give Virtua Fighter 4 a try. What can I say...I had to judge a 'book' by it's 'cover'. The characters looked really awesome and so did the graphics. Finally after having this game in my hand and I started to play it... I was impressed by the navigation and... well... that's about it. The character's faces should of gone through some CGI- surgery and really... why do you need two PUNCH buttons (that do the same thing)? I don't get it... the moves are slow, nothing unique, I thought to myself... thank goodness I only spent around 7.00 on this game. I plan on...selling it or giving it away to someone I know... or I might keep it. But really, there was nothing spectacular about Virtua Fighter 4.

Sega did a good job however but this game isn't to par with Tekken (series) or Soul Calibur and Bloody Roar. No end stories for each character in Arcade mode, meaning the fighters lack personality... Graphics are A+ but...the game in my rating deserves a D-.

Enjoy!

Virtua Fighter 4

Virtua Fighter has always impressed me for its realism - both in the art as well as the moves. Of the ones I've tried (Street Fighter, Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Soul Calibur) it is the most true of any fighting game to actual fighting styles with no supernatural abilities or weapons - and no unnecessary blood and guts either. I read that actual martial artists were filmed performing their skills and the character moves based on these mappings.

For a beginner though, it can be challenging to learn to execute the moves well enough to become a formidable player. You do kinda have to practice with each character and study their moves to get good instead of being able to stumble upon some cool moves by accident (via "button mashing"). For that kind of ease I recommend the Tekken series instead because each button control is mapped to a limb and is more intuitive than VF titles.

But the graphics are simply a pleasure to look at, and overall it is an excellent contribution to the arena of fighting games. I'd you won't be disappointed as a whole with this game, but maybe for younger kids or beginners you would have more FUN from the first exposure with a Tekken or Soul Calibur title instead. If you've tried those already and are looking for something a little more challenging, then look no further - Any Virtua Fighter title will fit the bill. But be prepared to spend some time with it to get really skilled at playing.

Virtua Fighter 4 is a solid fighting game

I decided to buy Virtua Fighter 4 because I have played it in the past with friends and have always wanted it. Now that prices have come down over the years and with the PS3 launch you can find lots of great games on ebay for pretty cheap which is great.

VF4 has great graphics for a PS2 game.

However the thing I dont like are the controls. In order to pull off some of the cooler moves you need to hit a series of 5 or more buttons perfectly which is pretty difficult to do so you are left with using the same boring punch and kick all match. If they could find some way of making it a little easier to use this game would be close to perfect.

Overall I would definitely recommend getting this game if you are into the fighting games like Tekken. Keep an eye out for Virtua Fighter 5 on Xbox360 and PS3 I am sure it will be just as good if not better than VF4.

One of the best fighting games ever to hit the PS2. Great graphics, great customization, VERY hard Kumite mode, challenging arcade mode, what more could a fighting game fan ask for? Highly recommended for PS2 fighting game fans. :D
