He is the lyricist all other MCs want to be, and he has the beats over which every other MC wants to rhyme. His third album, VOL. 2 HARD KNOCK LIFE, further verifies Jay-Z's #1 status. Throughout his musical career, Jay-Z has shown that he has the skills to pay more than just the bills. Experimenting like few other rap artists have, Jay-Z uses the Broadway musical Annie's "Hard Knock Life" for his title track and first single. With its hardcore production, "Money, Cash, Hoes" allows Jay-Z to demonstrate his lyrical skill alongside DMX. "Paper Chase" features Foxy Brown and diversifies VOL. 2 with its Southern Timbaland-produced feel.

4.5 Mics (out of 5) - ...On his third try for the trophy, the mayor of Marcy Projects took time during the offseason to perfect his method...
The Source (19981101)

3 stars out of 5 - ...Boasts Timbaland, DMX, Jermaine Dupri, Foxy Brown and an infectious title track sampling the musical Annie. It couldn't fail: the epitome of mainstream hip hop, and intentionally so.

Good CD

Created: 22/03/11
I decided to buy this CD because I had some extra money from selling and am a fan of Jay-Z's music. After I started listening to it, I thought, "Oh great, the only good song on here is going to be hard knock life" because I would say the first few songs on this album are in the average range (with the exception of hard knock life). However, I decided that maybe the album would get better as I listened to more songs, and I was right. The songs get much more creative as far as lyrics and storytelling goes and some of the beats & hooks are great (can I get a ... especially). Overall, this is a very good album for rap/hip-hop fans.

The Legend Jay-Z

Created: 07/11/06
No wonder this was his best selling album ever. Tight production and bouncing beats make Hard Knock and instant classic. If this album is missing from your Jay-Z collection buy it now, if you cant get behind the title song Hard Knock Life, then the super slick Jigga what, the mezmorizing Can I get a..., or the ultra hopping Money aint a thang, will make you realize Jay is at the top of his game here.

Vol. 2 Review

Created: 19/04/09
Vol. 2 is one of Jay-Z's best albums! Along with the Grammy Award winning song "Hard Knock Life"! I loved the album because it was very smooth and good to listen to. I decided to buy the album because it had many of my favorite songs.

Jay-z at His Abosolute Best

Created: 10/08/08
This cd is one of Jay-z's absolute best since, he started in the hip hop game. That happens to be my opinion, only. People that have followed him through the years would probably agree. This particular CD has several artists that appear, that were unknown at the time (1998). JaRule, The Lox, etc.
All in all, this happens to be my very favorite. It is not reccommended for young children or anyone under 18. There is PARENTAL ADVISORY for a reason, if you like going back in time, this is "THE ONE".
