And I'll Form...the Head!!!
Created: 25/06/07
Let me preface this by stating that I'm am totally biased on this subject. I loved this show when I was younger. The mid 80's were the golden years for this style of cartoon. Kids had so many cool choices back then..Transformers, He-Man, G.I. Joe, Robotech, and of course Voltron. Voltron is the story of a group of space explorers (Keith, Lance, Pidge, Hunk and Sven...the Voltron Force) sent to find the giant robot Voltron. The robot was split into five parts. Each part was in the shape of a lion. Once the five lions were brought together, they would form Voltron. Five robot lions coming together to form a giant robot and fight giant robot monsters called Robeasts. For a 10 year-old boy, this was the ultimate. As far as this collection goes, this is Volume I. It contains the first 15 episodes of the series on 3 DVD's. It also has some special features, including the original pilot. There are going to be a total of 8 volumes, one for each lion and one for each team of 5 for the "Vehicle" Voltron. {That's another story altogether.} You can get the regular DVD case or the "collector's" tin case. Now if you're a fan of the show, then you already know if you want this. If you're new to the show, then I can recommend this title with fair warning. Each episode, once they find Voltron, is basically formulaic. Their planet is attacked, they try to fight the monster with the lions, they lose, they form Voltron and game over. This show came out in 1984 and of course, the animation is dated. If you can get past that, I think that you'll like this show.

Voltron in a shadowbox

Sometimes thing should be left in the shadowboxes of our mind. Voltron is one of those. The love and excitement I felt when watching the show as a child does NOT cross the gap of time with this DVD set. However my seven year old loved it. My theory, robot Lions and monsters are pretty cool even without a coherent story to the mind of a child. if you want you kids to see it, save your money it's on Boomerang.

Voltron - Blue Lion Edition

I originally bought this DVD to introduce my 4 year old to the kinds of cartoons I watched as a kid. He loves it! Voltron was just as I remembered. The DVD's were remastered exactly like the original episodes I grew up watching. The quality was so good that I am in the market for the Green Lion Edition to add to my collection.

One of my most favorite cartoons as a kid

I am so glad they have released all these sets, it takes me back to my simple childhood days. For those of you who are not familiar with voltron.... its basically the 80's cartoon version of todays Power Rangers. My kids had no idea who voltron was but as soon as I popped it in they were glued to the t.v.
So if you like voltron, power rangers or your kids do I highly recommend getting all these sets.
There are 5 sets in all (as of now) and come in tin cases with each lions head as the artwork, red, green, blue, black, yellow. Each set has 3 discs and most discs have around 6 - 8 episodes on each.
I recommend if you are going to go for the whole set to get them in order so you wont be jumping around in the story line allot. Blue lion is the first set

WARNING... may take you back a couple decades, BUT...

When I first heard that they had the first season of the original Voltron on DVD, I couldn't believe it. I just HAD to get it! And when I did finally get it, I spent the next 2 weeks, straight, watching this first season OVER and OVER and OVER again! I felt like a little kid again, sitting in front of the TV on a saturday morning! So to anyone thinking about buying this, I must make this disclaimer: WARNING!! THIS DVD SET COULD CAUSE THE VIEWER TO SIT FOR HOURS ON END ON A COUCH, CHAIR, OR RECLINER, WHERE HE/SHE MAY ULTIMATELY FORGET TO EAT, DRINK, OR GO TO THE BATHROOM. THE CREATORS, PRODUCERS, AND DISTRIBUTORS ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY PERSON SUFFERING FROM LACK OF SLEEP, LACK OF FOOD/DRINK, LACK OF SEEING DAYLIGHT, OR FOR ANY URINATION STAINS ON THAT ARE LEFT ON THE COUCH. IF YOU ARE WILLING TO TAKE THIS RISKS, THEN BY ALL MEANS, GET THIS DVD SET!
