Great garage tone
Created: 11/07/10
I play a number of decent guitars (Gretsch Tennessee Rose, Fender Blackout Telecaster, Prestige NYS Deluxe and Prestige Heritage Standard) through an Electro Harmonix Black Finger tube compressor, then into a Roger Linn Adrenalinn III effects unit, then into a Traynor YCV40 tube amp. I love the sound I get from the various guitars and amp settings. I dig the powerhouse tube amp thing.
HOWEVER, I'm in love with the stripped sound of my Chinese Squier Strat plugged into the pedal setup into the Vox AC4TV with the external output connected to a Marshall cabinet with 12 inch Celestion Seventy/80 speaker. I keep the Vox at 1/4 watt - then push it. If you're looking for the garage sound of the late 70's/early 80's you can't get better than this. It's sublime!

Great product for the quality and price, could not be better satisfied. Even before purchasing it, it was memorable. When first started playing guitar , bought a Fender combo amp. As I learned more about guitars, amps and pedals. I learned that tube amps are superior sound compare to Combo amps. Of course tube amps are more pricier, but in my opinion better. I found combo amps problematic, as they specialize in preset tones. Which is great if you want the sound of you favorite band. If you want really practice and learn good technique and avoid dead or muted strings nothing beats like doing it with a clean tone. Thru my guitar journey thru the years and trying better quality guitars at Guitat Center, having a choice of plugging into any amp. I also went back to the Vox ac4tv, why this amp plain simply if I was going to lay hard earned money on a new guitar. I want to hear what the guitar sounds like, not what the amp with sound effects sound like. The Vox is loud enough clean to wake up the neighbors, luckily it has three voltage setting to keep the sound down when you need it. If you are looking for an amp that has great sound without any added gimmicks this is for you. If you looking for effects, buy pedals. Cheers fellow musicians

I've got the solid state version of this amp as well as this tube version (mine has the Bitmo mod). This amp is an incredible value and goes way beyond just a little practice amp. Louder than you would think too. Get one!!

Amp works great. The tubes sound nice and warm. Still sounds good at lower volumes, but can crank as well. Scrappy little amp. Been having a lot of fun with it.

I purchased this product because i was looking for an amp loud enough to play a club and quiet enough for the bedroom. I certainly got both , this thing roars at the 4 watt setting. I love the tone both cranked and clean its a good overall sound if you like classic rock and hard rock. My only complaint was that i needed to replace the stock 12ax7 preamp tube. When i would back off my guitar's volume to clean up the tone , the amp would squeal "underneath" the tone. I simply swapped out the tube and the problem was solved. I think it was microphonics. Before this amp i had a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and this little guy blows it out of the water tone wise but i lost the built in eq and reverb functions moving to this amp.
