VuPoint Magic Wand PDS-ST415-VP Handheld Scanner

My daughter needed a portable scanner so that she would be able to capture medical data to use as backup in her profession. Standard scanners used in text books almost always contain shaded or dark areas in the "alley" (spine of the book). This portable scanner captures a crisp clear image and saves it to an on-board memory card. There is also an added SD slot to increase memory capacity to the size of the card. Additionally, a selector switch on the unit allows either PDF or jpeg to be saved. The bottom line is this, as far as "wand" type scanners go, this one is the best one for the money and I would recommend it for anyone who needs the functionality. Works on 2 AA batteries but at this point I can't confirm how many scans a set gets because she is still working on the first set. Last an certainly not least, because it is extremely compact, it has become part of her traveling office because it always comes in handy when she's somewhere and needs to scan a document and insert it in her records.

This is a totally amazing tool, that I have already found quite useful, and am so glad that I purchased. It is easy to use, and can be plugged into XP/Vista 7 without using the software included, and works wonderfully. However, there is one slight drawback, that is easily overcome. You have to learn how to hold and handle the device. If you are a student, who has incredibly large amounts of material to read, you can use this amazing tool to scan your materials, copy and download them later at your convenience to your computer for easy reading. What if you have lots of old photo albums? You can easily scan the old photos and place them either back in the albums or some container to keep for later use. This way you can save photos for children & grandchildren. This is an amazing tool. Nothing short of a modern wonder/miracle to someone like me who grew up with typewriters and no computers in my youth. It comes with many nice things like two batteries, pouch to carry in anything from a purse to a backpack. The uses for this well rounded tool have not been fully realized. I completely recommend this, and my was a refurb, and it is great!!!

I got this scanner to use with my work documents. I am a DOT regulated delivery driver and like to keep copies of my daily sheets as well as logs and time cards. Rather than making a copy to take home and scan, I wanted to be able to just scan them, saving the paper waste. This little gem makes it really easy. The only issue I had was easily solved. I found it difficult to scan a single sheet without having it shift. I made a jacket out of a clear plastic sheet cover and an over-sized sheet of white paper. I put the item to scan into the jacket and run the scanner down the sheet. Connect it to my laptop and print to a pdf format. Just a little practice and I am scanning quickly and accurately.

I wanted to scan documents while on the road, I like the compact size and ability to scan a whole page. I bought a previous smaller version and it could only scan reciepts and not whole pages.

I like this magic wand very much. I does what it is designed for. I use it to scan pages from books and recipes and does a good job in converting to a text file.
