Walt Disney Treasures: The Complete Goofy (DVD, 2002, 2-Disc Set, Collectable Tin Case Limited)

The most optimistic and down-to-earth of the classic Disney characters, The Goof gets a restrospective that shows just how far a single character can develop over time. Beginning as a supporting character in early Mickey films (known then as Dippy Dog) Goofy evolves into a fun-loving, daredevil, intrepid traveler of all things modern. Goofy is at the forefront of all fads and his cartoons reflect the studio's attempts to catch those moments with deft hands. The "How To" series of cartoons -- usually something athletic -- are some of the funniest shorts the Disney folks ever made. As post-war America shifts and changes, so does Goofy (moreso than Mickey or Donald who remain staid and nostaligic) who takes on the modern man's troubles of being tired after a hard day at the office, trying to quit smoking or using his two-week's vacation to that popular destination spot of the time, our newest state, Hawaii.

This collection is no longer in print, so keep that in mind when you see the price. It's well worth owning and, as I can attest, holds up to repeat viewings with kids.

I was amazed to see several cartoons that I had never seen before in this collection of Walt Disney Goofy shorts. The information on these disks, about Goofy and how he was created and developed, was quite in depth. the only draw back about this collection is that the menu does not offer a "Play All" option. What that means is that you will be selecting each short seperatially. A serious bumber if you have little ones watching it in the back seat. Bottom Line: If you love Disney you must obtain any of the Walt Disney Treasures collections expecially The Complete Goofy.

First off, who doesn't like Goofy? He is timeless. My daughter is only 5 and she can recognize his ageless humor a mile away. Pure enjoyment. I bought this because the Disney Channel doesn't have every Goofy cartoon on demand. I want my Goofy when I want it. :) I am not your conventional collector. I do not collect a certain little narrow part of my childhood. I collect it ALL. I want to share with my child all of the things that were good in my life. You should try it. It is so fun to see the look on your child's face. It's like looking into a time machine mirror. I would also like to add that the first time my daughter saw this DVD, we were stuck in a noisy gymnasium waiting for her turn to perform for her first ballet recital. I played it on my laptop, but we couldn't hear it because all of the older students were practicing to their music. She totally forgot she was nervous and even just the images of Goofy being his Goofy self was enough to make her laugh. I'll never forget it.

I really loved it. I got this for my wife because she is such a Disney nut. Donald Duck is still my favorite but i have to admit i really loved this dvd. It is one of the first so there is no Play All option but not bad all the same.

Great Goofy cartoons. My son loves this DVD set, he's watched at over & over, laughing hilariously at all the antics of the Goof. Just wish there was a volume 2 to the set as we know there are a lot more great Goofy cartoons out there.
