Movie synopsis

Set in San Francisco amidst a feud between the Japanese yakuza and Chinese Triad criminal factions, director Philip G. Atwell's WAR stars Jet Li as the enigmatic assassin Rogue, and Jason Statham as Jack Crawford, an F.B.I. agent determined to track him down. As the prime suspect in the murder of Crawford's partner, the elusive Rogue uses the mayhem of gang warfare to his advantage, even as the gruff lawman closes in on his trail, leading to a dramatic showdown. Although Li and Statham have shared the screen before in THE ONE, this is the first film to give the two stars equal billing. While Li has little to say in the movie, his actions speak volumes; he plays Rogue with a sleek menace that contrasts nicely with Statham's gruff, no-nonsense presence. WAR is the debut studio film from hip-hop-video director Philip G. Atwell (best known for his work with Eminem and 50 Cent). It moves at a brisk, quick-cut pace, and benefits from fight choreography by veteran Chinese actor/director Corey Yuen. Though martial-arts fans may be slightly disappointed by the movie's focus on gunplay, one of its centerpieces, a furious swordfight that showcases Li's stunning dexterity, is sure to please aficionados of Hong Kong-style kinetics.

Statham & Lee Light It Up !!!!

Created: 01/01/08
Set in San Francisco, 'War' is a brutally savage revenge story; as FBI Agent Jack Crawford (Statham) seeks to bring down former CIA Assassin turned Freelance Contract Killer Rogue (Li); the man who killed his partner. He gets his chance when war breaks out between the City's Chinatown-Based Triads and their Rivals the Yakuza (Asian Mafia) who operate from San Francisco's "Yakuza District." Crawford detects Rogue's machinations in the destructive precision-based violence; confirmed by his discovery of one of the killer's trademark Titanium Shell Casings at a crime scene.
The story is credited to two First-Time Screenwriters, Gregory J. Bradley and Lee Anthony Smith. The plot is not-simple; nor a joke; as intrigued connections intertwine the Rival Asian Mafia Groups; and frankly request you "pay-attention" or face getting-lost in brilliant storyline. The violence is brutal and carrying intensity not very reminiscent of scenes from other action movies.
(Statham & Li inevitably bring the violence to a whole new level).
Unfortunately, the only film fault is a bit of storyline twisting that comes a little too-late; making clear sense....but leaving you to wonder why this couldn't have been introduced just a bit earlier; which would clear up what seems (during the movie) to be unanswered storyline holes.
Stick with the Film !!!!
The holes all fill-in....and will leave you talking about this film for a while.
Academy-Award Winner ?? NO !!
Statham & Li "Tearing It Up" ?? Oh Yeah !!
Face-Value Action with Detailed Storyline. Pay Attention - Won't Dissatisfy !!

Could have been worse, and could have been alot better.

Reuniting The One co-stars Jet Li and Jason Statham, War follows FBI Agent John Crawford (Statham) who sets out on a vengeful vendetta against a legendary, and ruthless, assassin named Rogue (Li) after he murders his partner. Eventually, the two face off, but sadly, everything in between is kind of disappointing. There are some nice twists to be found in War, but when your two main attractions are Jet Li and Jason Statham, you'd more than likely expect some heaping moments of high flying, over the top, martial arts action. You get it, but you don't get enough of it, and a majority of the action in War just comes off as being watered down. The two leads are enjoyable though, as Li succeeds as the ruthless Rogue, and Statham continues to find himself an action film favorite. There are some notable supporting actors to be found in War as well, including the gorgeous Devon Aoki (Sin City) and a surprising appearance from John Lone. All in all, War isn't a bad action choice one bit, but with the pairing of Li and Statham, the end result is mildly disappointing.

WAR (2008, DVD)

I love everything about this movie. I am a Jet and Jason fan, and to have both men in one movie is a treat for me. Rarely, in martial arts movies, you either get to see a sword fight, hand to hand combat, gun fight, or like David Carradine's kung fu version. This movie had it all! Jet plays an assassin seeks revenge on a FBI agent played by Jason. There is a cat and mouse chasing experience thru out the movie between Jet and Jason. In between the chaos, Jet managed to get rid of Japanese ninjas and Chinese triads at the same time while at the end he finally got a chance to battle his most wanted man, Jason. The only part that I didn't like was that Jet and Jason had too quick of a fight and also lacking much of the martial arts skills that the two men had. However, the director explains why he make them fight that way. I understood then after I watched the MAKING of the movie. I decided to buy this movie several times because I really enjoyed it. So, I bought a few for my friends and co workers. If you're a fan of both men or just one man, buy it. I don't recommend this film for kids tho, too violent!

Can You Say WOW!

I at first wasn't sure about this film..but now that I have seen it I am a HUGE fan of Jason Stratham and Jet Li..Film opens with two Agents doing battle with the baddies, very impressive scenes..Fast forward a pleasant sunny day for a BBQ..in walks a a masked assassin..when the guests arrive they find the house burned nearly down, three bodies one man, a woman and a little Girl..a vendetta is formed between the assassin and the remaining Partner...the Partner wants revenge, but it's not what you think. What viewers will see is a non stop action packed thrill ride of a movie..twists and turns galore..no one will see the ending coming..I do love that in a film!

Incredible Action

Created: 10/03/08
When I first saw the preview for a movie starring Jason Statham and Jet Li, my first reaction was that it was too good to be true.
...Then I saw the movie.
Not only does War deliver in action (though more Statham-Li fight scenes would have been nice), but War also sports a surprisingly well-written script and plot line. For the nay-sayers of "dumb action movies", this is not one of those!
Ironically, one of my favorite parts of the movie are the subtitles. The subtitles that switch from Japanese or Chinese characters into English as they are spoken are just simply cool.
The DVD offers a very good picture, audio, etc. and is an excellent DVD. There is not much more that I can say about this film, but I think you need to see it.
