    Product Information
It's true that this modest revision of Warcraft II is ostensibly no more than a repackaging of the four-year-old original, whose once-impressive production values no longer meet modern standards. On the other hand, Warcraft II's great gameplay still shines through all these years later, and its graphics and sound have also withstood the test of time. And at any rate, Blizzard makes no false claims about Warcraft II: Battle.net Edition. It's an attractively packaged, well-documented reproduction of a continuously popular game, designed to provide Warcraft II fans with an online arena for multiplayer competition so that the game might live on even longer.

Forget Warcraft III, Warcraft II FTW.

Warcraft II is the best game in the Warcraft trilogy. I am not counting World of Warcraft since I never played it and it is a different style of game. The game is horribly addictive, despite it being old. It even has an interesting plot despite being a Lord of the Rings imitation. This version is the best to have since it has both the original and expansion set, it has been ported to Windows (no DOS) and you can play online with battle.net. Recommended if you like old real-time strategy games.

Warcraft II for PC - XP compatible

    Created: 06/05/07
Warcraft II is a classic game, often found on top 10 and top 100 lists of best (or most influential) games of all time. Finally a version has come out that is Windows XP compatible. The game can be found online for free if you look hard enough, but most folks don't have an OS that will handle a ten year old game.

Arguably better than Warcraft III since the game requires the player to dominate land, sky and sea, this game was the blueprint upon which Warcraft III and Starcraft were built.

If you've never played this game, you owe it to yourself to try it. Five Stars. -John

    A game of the ages...

    Created: 03/05/07
I purchased Warcraft 2 back in the late 90's after seeing a friend play the original Warcraft. Since then it's evolved into one of the few titles that one just cannot stay away from. Sure I might put it away in the drawer for a few months, but I always find my way back to it... It's relatively addicting.

War2 comes with a mission editor to create your own maps or you can play the built in maps that come with the CD.
The war2 community is basically split amongst the "custom players" and the "BNE (battle.net edition) players" - each having their own claim to being #1 somehow or another.
One of the greatest things about war2 is that there is always someone better than you. Each map has it's own strategy and keys to victory.
Some custom maps have been adopted as "official" I guess one could argue... although there are probably hundreds of variations of the similar setup. For instance $$$BGH(2hf)$$$$ (Big Game Hunters 2 have fun) is a map with no rules, each player having equal and practically unlimited resources (assuming you have enough peons to gather the gold/lumber). That is widely adopted as a "pro" map because it takes many different forms of attacking to defeat the foe (Land, Air, Magic, Demolition, etc). Other maps are much more "newb" and simple or easy to play. Nevertheless each warcraft 2 player usually has a good time playing the respective maps of his/her choice.

If you login to battle.net right now there's still hundreds of players playing original and custom maps every single evening. Definitely a game of the ages - still alive a decade after it's release... not many others can boast such a feat... if any at all. 10/10

    A real game!

One of the best games ever made for online multiplayer on the computer. They haven't done a good job reproducing newer versions.. this is the verion that was the best.

What this game needs!! This game needs justice and needs ported to the newer consoles.. PS2 or PS3, etc.. Keep it similiar, enhance some graphics.. add some items.. let us play it online multiplayer on a consoler rather than the PC. World of Warcraft is nothing like this.. They took a great game and tried to turn it into an RPG. sucked.. The modern world is lacking this type of game right here! Games of today are getting too intense.. too deep, and require too much strain.. eye fatigue, and thought. This game allowed you to build and wander the forest. I miss wandering the forest so much for an attack. I try to think of ways everyday to replicate this game to the online mapmaker of Timesplitters Future Perfect for PS2.. and fail. We need this game and this games idea.
