Warriors DVD (2005) Ultimate Director's Cut
Created: 15/10/06
This is the 2005 re-release of the 1979 Walter Hill classic - the Warriors. In brief the film deals with all of New York's gangs meeting together for the first time. Each gang in the city has sent representatives to discuss basically taking over the city. The leader of the largest gang, and the organizer of the meeting,is killed and the Warriors, a gang from Coney Island, is blamed. The Warriors now have to fight their way back to Coney Island. Standing in their way is every gang in New York City.
While the plot is typical the movie is anything but. Walter Hill brought an almost comic book like feel to the film incorporating gaudily dressed villains, incredible fight scenes, and riveting music including the Eagles classic - "In the City".
The acting is solid, the action sequences are fantastic, and the soundtrack is great. It's a classic 1970 /80's action movie and the new release has lots of quality extras including an Introduction by Walter Hill and some interesting featurettes and interviews with the original actors. If you liked the original movie, you'll love the Ultimate Director's Cut.

The Warriors 2.0

Walter Hill revisits his 1979 cult classic in this 2005 director's cut DVD centering on a Coney Island gang trying to make it back to their home turf after being framed for the murder of a gang leader. The comic book style panels perfectly captures the mood and style of the film, but would turn off long-time fans. In a way, this wasn't a complete distraction after repeated viewings. James Remar and David Patrick Kelly's performances are a prime example of awesomenes in the roles of Ajax and Luther. Topping all off, Lynne Thigpen's narration and the soundtrack is very intoxicatinly pure to the finest. It is truly Hill's modern masterpiece in cult filmdom. Every image, every moment, and every line will stay within the viewer forever.

The Warriors-Excellent Gang Movie
Created: 03/03/11
I liked the movie as The Warriors gang had to fight many street gangs. A member of The Warriors was accused of a crime that he did not commit so all the street gangs of New York City wanted revenge on The Warriors. The Warriors had to use street smarts and skill to survive their way back to Coney Island.
The movie has some of the baddest and out-for-blood gangs in New York City.
I bought the movie due to really liking to read books about gangs and I enjoy watching movies about gangs. I also bought the 1979 movie as it is a very highly acclaimed movie that has been proclaimed to be one of the very best gang movies.
The movie is the very best. It is exceptionally worth buying to add to a movie collection. It has to be my most favorite movie.

TO ME THIS IS A CLASSIC. I REMEMBER WATCHING IT WITH MY BROTHERS WHEN I WAS YOUNGER SO WHEN I FOUND IT ON EBAY I HAD TO GRAB IT. THIS IS A MOVIE ABOUT GANGS AND WHAT ONE PARTICULAR GANG HAS TO FACE JUST TO GET BACK HOME TO CONEY ISLAND. WHAT THEY HAVE TO GO THROUGH IS JUST NASTY ALL BECAUSE A MEMBER FROM ANOTHER GANG SHOT A MAN WHO WAS TRYING TO PROMOTE PEACE AMOUNG THE GANGS. THE MAN WHO SHOT THE LEADER BLAMED THE GANG TRYING TO GET HOME TO CONEY ISLAND SO EVERY GANG IN NEW YORK WAS OUT TO GET THEM.
THIS MOVIE IS FILLED WITH LOADS OF ACTION AND KEEPS YOU ON THE EDGE OF YOUR SEAT. IF YOU GET A CHANCE TO PICK IT UP I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. THIS IS ONE MOVIE THAT WILL REMAIN IN MY COLLECTION.

THE WARRIORS directors cut: Don't improve on pefection!
Created: 15/04/08
I've always been a HUGE fan of the film THE WARRIORS! Ever since seeing it at my local drive-in back in the day of the films original release-1979.I had heard that Walter Hill had re-worked the film,THE WARRIORS,the way HE originally intended for the film to be shown.Couldn't wait to see what was left out of the original version of the AMAZING film classic!
I found the directors cut on DVD sometime back at a local flea market.Paid very little for it.Three or four dollars i believe.Couldn't wait to watch it when i got home!
I loved the original theatrical release of THE WARRIORS! But,seeing this directors cut,i had wished Walter Hill had left the film the way it was originally shown in theatres.
The directors cut is too cartoony! Almost like a comic book, each segment turning like a page from a comic book.Live action turns into still action-animated.It kind of takes away from the fast pace of this film.Perfection should ALWAYS be left alone. If it ain't broke,DON'T fix it!
Walter Hill is one of the most gifted directors in Hollywood! He's been around for years, and knows what he's doing.But,Mr.Hill,you must know how much of a cult following your film,THE WARRIORS has and how beloved this film is to its fans.ANY film as well made as this one, should have been left ALONE!
If you want to buy this film, buy the original theatrical version of this film.If you're curious about the directors cut, rent it first!
