She finds her own voice five songs in, with the tour de force "Do You Want to Play?" whose smart lyrics combined with a killer chorus are an immediate highlight of this self-assured collection."Jesus Loves You" is a thoughtful meditation on consumerism that also manages to include the sassy couplet "It's not what I can do for anybody/It's what their body can do for me," underlining the singer's confident way with her subject matter. "Till We Run Out of Road" is that rock & roll staple, the road song, but she returns to form with "Everyone Needs Someone Sometime," a self-explanatory examination in which the singer's smart storytelling skills are on full display. With the inclusion of a couple of solo acoustic live tracks showcasing Jewel's raw talent and its firm rock backbone underlaying her maturing vocals, THIS WAY is a confident return to form from a singer many had previously written off as a one-hit wonder.

One of Jewel's BEST

Created: 24/08/06
I would consider this album to still be Jewel's brand of folk-pop, rather than full-on POP. The difference is that Jewel's lyrics are intelligent, meaningful, and well-written. There aren't many electronic or synthetic instruments used in production. One bonus is that Jewel writes ALL HER OWN MUSIC and performs it as it was meant to be. I believe this makes it even more honest and beautiful. Jewel performs any song perfectly with just a guitar....in fact, she doesn't even NEED a guitar. Her voice is crystalline and pitch perfect. This album has some rockin' songs that'll get your toes tappin' and other ballads that will make you cry. I think this is a great album.....5 stars out of 5 I think. (The person who wrote the above review has no idea what they're talking about...)

Less Folk = Less Jewel. This Way is still a good album but it's a little too polished and pretend. Jewel is a folk singer...not a pop/rock star. That said, this CD is a must own for serious Jewel fans. 3 1/2 Stars.

Bad move!

Created: 11/08/06
I love Jewel, but since she crossed over to a more "pop" sound i just dont get it. i love her old stuff and own all her cds, and yes even the newer pop ones that are absolutely horrible. i do not listen to them. their probably the best shape cds i got. her old stuff is awesome and its so easy to sing a long with. Jewel rocks but this cd sucks! Bad move Jewel!
