The Night of the Iron Man

Created: 15/05/07
A theme show. Two Round Robin Tournaments for the top singles and top tag teams in the NWA at that time. With Ric Flair, Sting, Lex Luger and the Great Muta wrestling in a singles competition, with Sting pinning Ric Flair in the main event to earn a shot at his World Title. For the tag teams, you had The Road Warriors, the Stieners, the Somoan Swat Team and Doom. Finals here saw the L.O.D. defeat the SST to win. Earlier in the night, the Stieners beat the Warriors in a real high impact match, that may have been the highlight of the entire PPV. Well worth the price. If you can find it cheap enough.

The Best meets The Best!

Created: 07/10/06
In the history of the event Starrcade, the Starrcade that took place in 1989 was one of my favorites. Starrcade was the biggest Pay Per View of the year for the then NWA (and later WCW) and was their equivalent to Wrestlemania the WWF/WWE had. On this specific night there were two tournaments contested, one for the singles division and the other for the tag team division. They both were round robin style tournaments (in other words everyone wrestles everyone). But what made it so special is that all the teams and all the singles wrestlers had to wrestle four times in one night, which at the time was unprecedented. It's not the easiest feat to pull off in the wrestling business. What fueled this type of tournament at the time to take place, was the fact a lot of heavy talk was going on about who the best singles wrestler and best tag team at the time was. From within the wrestlers in the NWA at the time to fans of the sport. So they decided to have the four best singles wrestlers and four best tag team wrestlers all square off in one night to show who is the best to the world and to silence the talk.

This truly did personify a supercard if there ever was one. You got to see The Road Warriors face off against the The Steiner Brothers for the first time for instance. You got to see Sting wrestle The Great Muta again in a highly anticipated rematch that was along time coming. NWA really delivered the goods this night for the wrestling fans, and put on some real superstar dream matches. Since all the matches were for fifteen minutes though and no longer, all the wrestlers went at each other 100 mph and made all the matches high impact for the most part. This was one of Starrcade's best nights that stood out amongst the rest.
