Weeds - Season 4 (DVD, 2009, 3-Disc Set)

Mary-Louise Parker, Elizabeth Perkins|Theatrical release: 2008 | Rating: Not Rated

Movie synopsis

In the fourth season of this hilariously subversive series, Mary-Louise Parker is back as pot-dealing widow and single mother Nancy Botwin. Thanks to some drastic occurrences, Nancy is forced to relocate her family from the idyllic Agrestic township to the home of her caustic father-in-law (Albert Brooks) in a small town near the border of Mexico, thereby leaving behind her business with Conrad and Heylia indefinitely. Soon enough, however, Nancy is waist-deep in a whole new world of problems involving her sons’ raging hormones; her new drug-trafficking partner, Guillermo (Guillermo Diaz); a secret underground tunnel fronted by a maternity store; and Guillermo’s boss, a powerful and sensual druglord who moonlights as the mayor of Tijuana. To make matters worse, Celia (Elizabeth Perkins), who’s fallen into a drug-fueled mess, is snooping around the whole situation, as is one invested DEA officer. Meanwhile, the bumbling Andy (Justin Kirk) and Doug (Kevin Nealon) start an immigrant-smuggling operation only to find loves that just might destroy them. This set contains all 13 episodes of WEEDS’s fourth season.

Weeds: Not Just Another Pretty Face

Created: 08/02/11
Bought the first 5 seasons last year. Had been renting but local store is OUT OF BUSINESS (thank you very much NetFlix). Wanted to finish, and got a great deal on all of seasons 1-5.
This is all that it's been cracked up to be. And much of it is difficult to watch. The humor is more comic relief in the way Hitchcock used this dramatic device. Mary-Louise Parker, of course, is an exceptional actress, and the writers and director have brought out the best in all the others. The "child" actors are exceptional!! But be prepared for the fright of the real-life world of the dangers of the real world of cannabis prohibition, death, family conflict, and the unknown that waits around every corner for all of us. This show is NOT about selling pot. It's about life in America; hence, the title song, "Little Boxes", sung by the writer in most episodes (now well along in life) and on one occasion by the one and only Pete Seeger, who made it famous while he was on HUAC's blacklist (and there is NO COINCIDENCE HERE). Musicians from around the world lined up, asking to be the one to record it for the limited number of episode introductions. Randy Newman is perhaps the best. A "special feature" shows the great Newman (son of movie score composer Lionel Newman and nephew of movie score composer Alfred Newman -- not to be confused with MAD Magazine's Alfred E. Neuman!) sitting at what looks like a Tinker-Toy instrument trying to find the best way to render this profoundly deep song on a piano worthy of Peanuts' Schroeder -- and in the very, very limited time available. His rendition is brilliant. But then, he's been brilliant since his first album in the late '60s (Randy Newman Live, with songs like "I Think It's Going To Rain Today, Davey The Fat Boy, etc.).

I only bought Season 4 alone because one of my discs from the Seasons 1-5 set has a flaw and needs or will soon need replacing.

I place this up with the very few other television series I've bought on Ebay or rented: Homicide: Life on the Street (all 7 seasons, best crime drama every written and produced), and The Twilight Zone (complete 153 episodes, and, in the words of Billy Mumy, who had two appearances in it before moving on to Lost In Space (yecchhhh!), "the best television program that has ever been written and produced, and probably the best that ever will be."

Weeds is right up there. Next on the list: The West Wing.

Buy all the seasons of Weeds, but beware: you're about to enter a dimension not of space or time, but of mind. You're about to enter...need I say it?

Weeds is a show to watch.

I had always wanted to watch WEEDS,BUT NEVER HAD SHOWTIME. A friend recomed that i watch it, so i took their word for it. So i saw that these items were available on bluray for an affordable price, and i jumped at the opportunity to own them. Now in the 3rd season, I am very pleased with my purchase.

The show is categorized as a dramedy, and it delivers exactly that. The drama is intense, and the comedy is very witty and sarcastically funny. The show is centered around a pot dealing Widow, and her family. It goes through her triumphs, as well as her trials and tribulations.
Mary louise Parker, delivers in each episode as she did For "angels in america" the HBO mini-series in which she won an emmy.

I highly(no pun inteded) recommend this show.

Naughty, but well done

Weeds is a clever, 21st century comedy/drama. I have enjoyed actress, Mary-Louise Parker since I first saw her on West Wing.
Being decades beyond my marijuana use age - 68!, I still can empathize with the view that marijuana is not in the same category as other illegal drugs.
The quality of writing and the supporting cast is also excellent. Reality? I don't think so, but that makes it even better. Not for the Born Again set.
