Album Notes
Led Zeppelin: Robert Plant (vocals); Jimmy Page (guitar); John Paul Jones (keyboards, bass); John Bonham (drums).Recorded at Los Angeles Forum, Los Angeles, California and Long Beach Area, Long Beach, California on June 25 & 27, 1972.Personnel: Robert Plant (vocals, harmonica); Jimmy Page (acoustic guitar, electric guitar); John Paul Jones (mandolin, keyboards, bass guitar); John Bonham (drums, percussion).Audio Mixer: Kevin Shirley.Recording information: LA Forum (06/25/1972/06/27/1972); Long Beach Arena (06/25/1972/06/27/1972); Sarm West Studios, London, England (06/25/1972/06/27/1972).Photographers: Jeffrey Mayer; James Fortune; Michael Putland; Jim Cummins. In the course of putting together the live Led Zeppelin DVD for 2003 release, Jimmy Page came across some great concert recordings from the band's 1972 stint in California. HOW THE WEST WAS WON is three discs' worth of vintage Zep, far superior to the band's only other live album THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME. Here is the fearsome foursome in all their glory and fury, coming off like crazed rock & roll Vikings on the opening "Immigrant Song," reinventing the blues form on "Heartbreaker," and just plain rocking the doors off the joint on "Rock and Roll" and "Black Dog."This being 1972, the band had made its journey into the folk-rock realm as well, and come out with the touching "Going to California" and "That's the Way," the earthy "Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp," and the minstrel-in-the-hills fancy of "Over the Hills and Far Away," all of which are given strong voice here. A 25-minute "Dazed and Confused" and epic-length drum solo on the John Bonham feature "Moby Dick" show that Zep was unafraid to venture into anything they damn well pleased, but the bluesy grit and primal hard-rock crunch of their feel throughout this collection reveals the pure visceral magic of which these '70s icons were capable.

How the west was won is a great collection of live led zeppelin from 1972 at The Long Beach Arena, and songs from the L.A.Forum also from 1972. 18 total songs and this 3 cd set is well worth the money. This is the only cd set with these versions of live performances! The DVD is also AWESOME!! Good artwork and Jimmy Page did an excellent job on producing this project. You get all the classic like (stairway to heaven, Immigrant song, Black Dog, Dazed and Confused, Rock n Roll,Whole lotta love, Going to California and more!

Absolutely Amazing!

Created: 23/10/08
I own every single Led Zeppelin album and I must say that this is BY FAR the best one. In my opinion the songs on this album are better than the studio recorded versions. With insane guitar and drum solos, killer vocals and awesome bass solos (especially in Dazed and Confused), there's no reason not to like this album. The band's most famous song, Stairway to Heaven, is also featured on this album and sounds even better live. DO NOT HESITATE TO BUY THIS ALBUM! I guaruntee that you will not be disappointed!

How the West was won

J.Page has always put more than a bit of quick thought on releasing
anything from Led Zep. Past that would not be up to Par. for the bands
true glory days. To wit/ In the Prime. This 3 CD collection from two
Cal. Performances from `72 hits the mark.
True Atomic Blues/Rock from the band when they were tight road warrior`s
that no other Band could touch at that time.
All the tracks are just the way you would want to hear them played live.
The Band is still hungry... and eager to amaze the listener!
5 stars!!! Great selection of songs from the 1st 5 L.P.`s played w/fire!!!

This is a great compellaton Led Zeppelin CD

Created: 03/08/07
This CD has a lot of the Zeppelin classics on it that you are looking for. One of the best songs has to be Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp which is more lively than the original. 18 songs on a 3 CD set, it's the best deal for your money. It's a live recording, and there is a lot of life to it; with the fans and Robert and Jimmy playing up to them. This is definately a must for any Zeppelin lover.
I would say for anyone looking to buy this look for one new and still in its original packaging. You don't want to miss any of the great sound from a skip caused by a scratch.
I am a huge Zeppelin fan and I listen to this CD all the time. It was a definate must have for my collection.

LED ZEPPELIN - HOW THE WEST WAS WON - 3CD SET

Created: 07/04/10
I SAW THIS ITEM COME UP ON E-BAY ONE DAY , AND I SAID " GOTTA HAVE IT ".
I WAS ALWAYS A BIG FAN OF LED ZEP , AND I NEVER OWNED THIS SET SO I HAD TO BUY IT TO ADD TO MY ZEPPELIN COLLECTION.

THIS IS ALSO GREAT BECAUSE I LIKED THEIR MUSIC LIVE MORE THAN STUDIO RECORDED, AND I ALSO HAVE ANOTHER SET LIVE - THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME.
ALTHOUGH THERE ARE ALOT OF THE SAME SONGS , THEY STILL SOUND SOMEWHAT DIFFERENT AND UNIQUE.

A+ A+ A+ A+ A+ / 5 STARS.
