With WHITE PONY, Deftones mastermind and vocalist/guitarist Chino Moreno has brought the band to full gallop.Somewhat inspired by the game show, "Feiticeira" recounts a chilling abduction from the first person perspective, while "Digital Bath" features moody verses and brutal choruses. "Elite" uses a vocal approach usually reserved for death metal bands while "Rx Queen" is morbidly romantic. "Teenager" celebrates the purity of adolescence and "Passenger" showcases a vocal duel between Tool/A Perfect Circle frontman Maynard James Keenan who co-wrote the track. Deftly produced by the band and metal producing veteran Terry Date, WHITE PONY is far from a sideshow; it's the main event.

Editorial Reviews
8 out of 10 - ...Regarded as the biggest American rock album to be released this year....it's a good job they've made a great album....And it sounds like Foreigner.
NME

4 stars out of 5 - ...A very good album....Deftones will always be the most rewarding of the current nu-metal crop...
Melody Maker (20000627)

...More influenced by new wave than new metal....[the album] is a masterwork of fluctuating dynamics...
CMJ (20000619)

Included in CMJ's Best Loud Rock Albums of 2000.
CMJ (20010108)

5 out of 5 - ...Explores rock's sonic possibilities from the head and the gut, without diluting the intention or diminishing its essence....WHITE PONY is invigorating.
Alternative Press (20000701)

3 stars out of 5 - ...Their most adventurous and assured album to date....Best appreciated if your 16, covered in spots and not scared of falling off your skateboard...a welcome addition to 2000's modern-metal canon.
Q (20000701)

...Their brutality will burn its way into your memory banks. - Rating: B+
Entertainment Weekly (20000707)

3 stars out of 5 - ...a classic alternative-rock album, as gentle and catchy as it is dark....trading nuance for studio-generated crescendoes...
Rolling Stone (20000720)

a fair review of a cd i bought on ebay

Created: 02/12/08
there were no dislikes about this item whatsoever. the cd came with its original packaging (sans wrapper)and the actual cd was pristine and in near mint condition. i love this cd due to the fact that this is deftones shining moment, the real diamond of there material. now, all of there material i love, but his cd is what got me hooked, there are three versions of this cd which this would be two out of three( the last version contains the boys republlic which is another b-side from this album). all in all, the vocal dynamics of chino moreno, song formats, lyrics, and many poly-rhythms and guitar noises of stephen carpenter are what make this album there best. it also includes a soundtrack song to a favorite movie of mine(queen of the damned, change(in the house of flies) and a cooperative track with tool and APC leadman maynard james keenan(passenger). buy this cd, sink in and enjoy the teenage emotional sprawl,
and you might see what i mean...

my reasons o purchasing were price and condition, which were both awesome.

A M A Z I N G album

Created: 07/01/11
Deftones RULE. I already had "Around The Fur" and wanted to check out more Deftones so I got this and haven't stopped listening to it since. There's a nice range of tunes but my favorite are the heavy groovers like "Back To School" and "Street Carp". Chino's screams are great but he does a lot of clean vocals on this one and his clean voice sounds stronger and more in-tune than on "...Fur". This album also has some of the wickedliest heavy guitar riffs on earth. Abe Cunningham kicks the crap out of the drums but also shows how much finesse he has behind the grooves on tunes like "Digital Bath". If you have any interest in Deftones, pick this one up, you won't be disappointed.

I have been a Deftones fan since about 1997, and this album may just be my favorite. Very good, some melodic songs, only one or two really hard songs. If you like Deftones, you have to own this CD.

love everything of the record, the sounds and the rythims.
The sound of calmness, life and tragedy.
This cd reminds me of high school day, back when I was 15 years old, when everything used to be simple and fun.
it brings me many memories.
