Tapping into the social structure of rock, Everlast keeps his rap credibility but blesses the skateboard kids with r&r vibes, making a brilliant texture of hip-hop beats and six-string melodies. "What It's Like," the album's first single, enjoyed a much-deserved rise towards the top of the charts.Produced by John Gamble and the SD50, WHITEY FORD contains tracks that offer the lyrical depth and social relevance Everlast has always been known for. Tracks like "Ends," "Praise the Lord" and "Death Comes Callin'" show why Everlast remained on the scene for more than a decade. Guest appearances from Sadat X of Brand Nubian, Bronx Style Bob and Casual, along with interludes from Guru, Prince Paul, and Sen Dog from Cypress Hill keep plenty of flavor flowin' throughout the album.

Editorial Reviews
...A beautifully crafted, ocassionally affecting album...
Mojo

...the toughest white boy to pick up a microphone has returned....WHITEY FORD SINGS THE BLUES is a collection of rap meets rock tunes that are sure to appeal only to one-minded rap fans...
The Source (19981101)

4 Stars (out of 5) - ...much here turns out to be of a more sophisticated hue than the expected off-the-peg bellicose hip-hop. Soulful blues...jazzy balladeering...and old school funk...all make welcome appearances...

Whitey Ford Sings The Blues - Everlast

Created: 06/03/08
I BOUGHT THIS DISC BECAUSE OF EVERLAST'S APPEARANCE ON CARLOS SANTANA'S 'SUPERNATURAL' CD, AND I WANTED TO HEAR HIS SOLO MATERIAL. 'WHITEY FORD SINGS THE BLUES' IS A LARGELY AUTO-BIOGRAPHICAL ALBUM ABOUT EVERLAST'S HEART ATTACK. THE SONG 'WHAT IT'S LIKE IS GREAT' AND IS DEFINATELY A MUST LISTEN TRACK. EVERLAST COMBINES, ROCK, RAP, AND BLUES IN CREATING THIS CD, AND IT WORKS PERFECTLY ON THIS SONG. UNFORTUNATELY, FOR ME, THE REST OF THE CD IS A LITTLE TOO HEAVY ON THE RAP AND HIP-HOP BEATS, WHICH I'M NOT REALLY INTO. IF YOU LIKE RAP AND HIP-HOP YOU WILL LIKE THIS CD, IF YOU'RE NOT A HIP-HOP FAN IT IS STILL WORTH A LISTEN JUST FOR 'WHAT IT'S WORTH'.

All good!!!

This is a several year old CD but it holds up well. I am more of a blues/Motown/old school R&R guy (Clapton, SRV, Stevie Wonder, etc). I always liked the rap "What it's Like" so I decided to venture into a rap CD. I was not dissapointed. All the Lyrics are hard core and the message of the CD is crystal clear. Live or Die by the "Smokin Gun"! I'm hooked. This is a gr8 CD to work out to as well. It gets you mad and pumped up. Out!

Decent but Uneven

Created: 11/02/07
The singles from this album, "Ends" and "What It's Like", are not only the best songs, but not representative of the other songs on it. The majority of the songs on this album are straightforward rap songs, without the acoustic guitar and sung vocals that made "What It's Like" more appealing. The rap songs are often well-done, but as someone who bought the album on the strength of the singles, I was somewhat disappointed.
