Excellent PSP Game
Created: 25/01/08
In passing years, WipEout was expanded with four sequels of varying quality on three different consoles; while the series' popularity peaked just following the release of the first PSX sequel Wipeout XL, it has become less and less relevant in recent years thanks in part to a mediocre showing on the Playstation 2. As such, it's rather astonishing that the series has returned to help launch a new Playstation console; what's more surprising though, is just how great it is.
Developer Studio Liverpool, the team responsible for the PS2's Wipeout Fusion, has undoubtedly learned from its mistakes and returned the series to its former glory in Wipeout Pure. As the title implies, many of the gameplay systems that were modified or added to Fusion to poor effect have been dismissed while many of the series' former ideals have returned. With the bone set back into place, Studio Liverpool was free to build upon those old concepts to create what is very likely the most polished futuristic racer to ever hit the market.
While Pure is a return to form in many different ways, none is so obvious as the way vehicles handle. Fusion's courses tended to be very wide and thus the vehicles were much more prone to making harsher turns. This was a bother for old players who had to essentially relearn to play, and for fresh pilots who simply found the learning curve too difficult. Thankfully, the vehicles in Fusion handle similarly to those in earlier games. It's much easier to keep the nose of the ship pointed forward, for example, and air-brake-assisted drifting becomes second-nature after little practice.

The Good
Awesome sense of speed Gorgeous visuals Classic Wipeout fun Good selection of tracks.
The Bad
Track designs could've taken more risks Hard to miss hitting walls on turns.
WOW! I remember playing F-Zero on SNES. Great game then and now Wipeout Pure on PS. Similar games and both I like very much. Ok I'm not huge into racing games but I enjoy a bit of racing now & then. I picked this game cuz I was in the mood for some racing and I did my research on it. The graphics are well drawn and looks to be actually from the PS2. The Game play was wild I really get into it when I start playing. Possibly more interesting, though, is how the sound most of which the hum of the ships gives a great sense of the incredible futuristic power contained within, the robotic voice that announces the names of weapons as they're deployed. The SpaceShip Weapons are intense and a great advantage when in need of a winning position. Wipeout Pure is a joy to look at, and it's viscerally satisfying enough to please fans of the series and new players like myself. The visuals are simply impressive, both on an artistic and a technical level. Over-all I give Wipeout Pure 9.3

Wipeout Pure is Excellent

If you've ever played a Wipeout game before you know what to expect, insanely fast futuristic racing !! If you haven't well... Wipeout Pure is a racing game with futuristic armed hover craft. When you start off you may think the speed is very slow. Well thats just so you can get used to it before moving on to the faster leagues. The Graphics in Wipeout Pure look great with a solid framerate, nice effects like sparks when you scrape against the side of the track/other racers and colorful effects for the environments and weapons/explosions and compared to other racing games on the PSP, they are at the top of the list. The color palet used is vibrant and clean. The enviroments and track design is well done and the Techno sound track fits the game perfectly. There is also online multiplayer and alot of free downloads for more tracks and vehicals. Overall Wipeout Pure is one of the best racers for the system and everyone with a PSP should own it.

Good Game - Too Difficult
Created: 05/12/06
I bought it because it was one of the launch titles and it has sold so well that it must have been good. It does happen to be a very good game but I doubt many people will ever get to the end. I played for about 10 to 15 hours and I can't play any more. The graphics are amazing the handling of the vehicles and overall gameplay are done very well but it just gets too difficult. I'm no newbie to games, especially racing games so this isn't some 12 year old whining about how hard it is. After the first 2 or 3 classes that you beat in tournament mode, the A.I. gets almost perfect and it takes countless retries to improve at all. I simply can't play it any longer because it's become a pain in the butt and no matter how much I try, I just can't beat the computer players. One other thing that makes this game less than perfect: there is a multiplayer mode but it isn't online capable, meaning - the people you want to play with have to be in the room. You can't be bored and race against people worldwide, you have to know someone with the same game and make a play date. Otherwise, like I said, the game is amazing and the graphics are still top notch compared to recently released titles. Hope this helped.
