Album Notes
The Cure: Robert Smith (vocals, guitar, 6-string bass, keyboards); Perry Bamonte (guitar, keyboards, 6-string bass); Porl Thompson (guitar); Simon Gallup (keyboards, bass); Boris Williams (drums, percussion).Recorded at The Manor, Oxfordshire, England.Undoubtedly more commercial than previous albums, Wish nevertheless represented the Cure doing what they do best, oblivious to prevailing musical trends. Once again, Robert Smith tore out his innards and offered them to the listener (the wrenching and chilling 'Apart'), spitting bile in 'Cut' and effectively evoking the feeling of wretched, helpless drunkenness in 'Open'. Amid the darkness, there is still time for a couple of classic pop songs, particularly the catchy 'Friday I'm In Love', and the customary obsessive love odes. Although frequently dismissed by hardcore Cure fans as too pop-orientated, Wish managed to strike a balance between the extremes of utter despair and intoxicating joy.

4 Stars - Excellent - ...this outstanding album, like all the Cure's best music, runs on its own brash logic, making a virtue of its emotional polarities...

This is by far my favorite Cure album! It shows how very diverse they can be. As a whole, the album meshes well together. Streaming beautiful arrangements with absolute pop gems! This seemed to be the same formula on Wild Mood Swings, but didn't work as well. Best tracks are High,Apart, From the Edge..., Wendy Time, A Letter To Elise and To Wish Impossible Things.

THE CURE - WISH

Album of considerable thickness"Wish" represents a return to sound less gloomy and melancholic lyrics in favor of more positive although it remains the classic imprint of dark band.To remember the hit"Friday i'm in love" but still very good test of Robert Smith and all the band.Buy or die.Voto 9

Brilliant! The guitar version of "Disintegration."

Created: 28/02/09
"Wish" is a brilliant cd. It takes up where "Disintegration" left off, and uses layers of guitar (and often feedback) to create the lush, layered, enveloping sound that "Disintegration" so beautifully perfected.

My only real complaint on this cd is that I don't find the song "High" to be very compelling, but, then again, it is in the vein of pop songs like "Lovecats," which isn't a favorite Cure song by me either.

The layered sounds, ethereal, swirling arrangements and moving, heartbreaking lyrics place this in my top two favorite Cure albums.

If you like "Disintegration," but also appreciate layered, swirling guitars like a more psychedelic My Bloody Valentine, then you'll appreciate this cd which melds those concepts seamlessly.

Doing The Unstuck

It's hard for me to pick my favorite Cure album but I'm leaning toward Wish. Every song is completely flawless (Friday I'm In Love is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to greatness here). Dark, poetic, beautiful. What more could you want in a CD? 5 Stars.
