Fans can credit frontman Dave King, who went from membership in Motorhead offshoot Fastway to leading a septet that makes a glorious noise via copious amounts of fiddle, tin whistle, and accordion, with equally large doses of guitar.Flogging Molly rides a ramshackle rhythm that doesn't let up throughout 15 songs that would be equally at home in CBGB's or a pub. King's broad interests range from a recounting of Irish slaves being sent to Barbados by English leader Oliver Cromwell ("Tobacco Island") and music's role in keeping Celtic tradition alive throughout historical turmoil ("The Wanderlust") to outrage at Bush's warmongering in the name of God ("Screaming at the Wailing Wall"). Lucinda Williams's guest vocals on "Factory Girls" may come as a surprise initially, but once this tale of an Irish housekeeper gets rolled out, Fairport Convention-like nuances reverberate. WITHIN A MILE OF HOME is yet another example of Irish culture and punk going together wonderfully, like corned beef and cabbage.

Getting Better

Created: 14/09/10
The sound of these guys are getting better but still very predictable however there are some good songs on this cd and they seem to be maturing in their sound on this disc. It is good to see other artist sit in on this cd it did add color to the overall project. My favorite is Factory Girls featuring Lucinda Williams which is the best track on the album in my opinion. The 7 Deadly Sins I could imagine Johnny Depp singing in his Jack Sparrow costume.

Always puts me in an awsome mood.

I love Flogging Molly. Their music is very meaningful to me. Their songs are not all just thrown together to make an album. The Lyrics have meaning to them and to others. It always can put me in a cheerful mood. I love how I can relate to alot of what they are singing about. I have not heard a song that I didn't like. It is hard to find an album that I can listen to all the way to the end and NOT have to skip any songs. I would recommend this album or ALL of the others to anyone. You will not be disappointed. I saw them in concert this year and they blew me away with their energy and love for their fans. These are real down to earth band members that aren't all full of them selves. They completely had me from the first song I heard. I went out and got all the CD's and then some shirts ect. I LOVE THEM! So different from any band I have ever heard and completely original in style.

Punk and Irish folk music. Like an Carbomb for your ear

I love this CD. I saw them in tour last year and they put on a great show. The mix of Irish Folk and Punk is surprising, but the sentiments it expresses are surrisingly authentic.
