WKRP in Cincinnati - Season 1 (DVD, 2007, 3-Disc Set)

Howard Hesseman, Tim Reid|Theatrical release: 1978 | Rating: Not Rated

Movie synopsis

Howard Hesseman, Loni Anderson, and Tim Reid turn the comedy up to 11 in this sitcom about a radio station in the Buckeye state. The station WKRP may not have been a rousing success, but this series found its audience through its strong cast and running gags. Hesseman (HEAD OF THE CLASS) plays DJ Johnny Fever, who was a hotshot in Los Angeles, but an on-air gaffe forces him to small-time Cincy. With sexy secretary Jennifer (Anderson) and disc jockey Venus Flytrap (Reid, SISTER, SISTER), WKRP IN CINCINNATI shows the station's attempts at climbing out of a ratings dive. This release includes every episode of the first season, as well as episode commentary from cast members and creator Hugh Wilson (FRANK'S PLACE).

WKRP DVD Rocks !

Created: 13/01/10
This WKRP DVD took me back to that magical world with the adel-minded Herb Tarlick, the lovely Jennifer Marlow, the rock and roll burnout Dr. Johnny Fever, the ever smooth Venus Flytrap, the shy Bailey Quarters, the tentative Mr. Carlson, the Recluse Les Nesmen, and the hopeful leader, Travis. What magical characters and so well played. This DVD also features commentary by some of the cast on certain episodes. neat stories for all you KRP buffs. I haven't laughed so hard as well I relived the, "Turkey Day" episode. Somehow, it was even funnier this time around.

I would say that there is no one who would not like this dvd for themselves. But be advised, you will be bidding against me since I intend to get some more of them as gifts for my friends next year.

Bottom Line:WKRP Was About The Music Too!

Just inexcusable! Makes you wish they just didn't release it in the first place. A show about a radio station without the signature music?!!? What were they thinking? The conversation with Arthur and Johnny discussing the dog bark effects on Pink Floyd's "Dogs" is classic, and now it's gone. I will NOT be buying this, because even though these edits don't take up the majority of the shows, they do take away from the atmosphere and timeliness of the era the show originally had. Don't get me wrong, I love this show, but the way "I" grew up with it, and that included the songs, those classic songs.

And some of the episodes are syndicated, cut versions? In this day and age of DVD entertainment, this is just insulting to the buying public. This classic show deserves more respect than this. They should have dished out the money and paid these musical artists what they deserve to keep the show originally intact and remastered the ORIGINAL broadcast prints, not these second generation edited tapes. Actually a simple task, but no.

So, basically if this DVD set was a turkey (which in my opinion it is), it would hit the ground like a sack of wet cement.

WKRP in Cincinnati: Season 1 compiles some of my favorite moments in television and one of the funniest moments in TV history as ranked by TV Guide. I have been a big fan of the show and, although I rarely watched it during its first run, I have watched each episode repeatedly in syndication.

I've seen where some people were disappointed in this release because of the fact that they have replaced much of the original music from the show with bland fill in material. I do agree that the musicians could have done a better job with the fill in music and it would have been nice to have the original music, but I do not feel like it impaired this DVD release at all. I have enjoyed watching this DVD and would definitely recommend it to anyone who loved the show. I guess I would have to say this about the music. Were you watching for the music or were you watching for the comedy? I watched for the comedy and it is all still there.

The bottom line is that I cannot wait for seasons 2 and 3. Even though I acknowledge a problem with the fill in music, to have the DVD with that is better than not having the DVD at all. If you're a fan of 'KRP, then you shouldn't miss this release.

Great nostalgia trip

I truly enjoyed every episode of the season one of WKRP. It was already in sendication at 11 pm weeknights when I first saw this comedy sleeper. Each character actor in this broadcast was perfectly selected to depict writer Hugh Wilson's vision of a struggling radio station consisting of colorful personalities. Now I can relive these episodes again and again.
