    The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding

Excellent resource, well written and easily understood. Invaluable to woman whom want much information about techniques for breastfeeding. I had three children & each presented different challenges & problems. This book provided information for solutions to problems as they arose that increased my enthusiasm & support for the mother (mother to be) to approach breastfeeding as one of the most fulfilling experiences of early motherhood. I recommended this book to a friend, who had a common problem for the redheaded mother. She stuck to her guns & endured the discomfort until the skin toughened enough where the discomfort subsided. I was so proud of her. She could have easily circum to the bottle, but her tenacity triumphed. The result: a healthy, happy, well adjusted baby with very few allergies. Something my friend battles (allergies) for herself everyday.
I bought it as a gift to loan out to the new mothers which surround me at work. My original copy was loaned out many years ago & never returned. That's okay. It was well used & if my friend had read it & referred back to it as often as I had, it probably ended up in the great book heaven.

Excellent reading for new moms, and for ones w/ experie

I bought this book after the birst of my first baby, when I experienced trouble nursing. I might have stopped, but turned to this book as a reference to help solve some of the problems I was having. What I found in this book was solid advice, support for my efforts, and new knowledge about the entire process of nursing. I was more educated about nursing after having read it, and was able to resolve my nursing difficulties nursing with its help. In this book, you will find how-to information, including tasteful pictures, of the basics of nursing, and troubleshooting (everything from latch problems to mom's dietary considerations). You will also find lots of naturalistic, holistic advice. But even if you don't subscribe to that way of thinking, there is plenty of good, useful, and smart advice.

My word of advice, however, is to read this book prior to the birth of your baby. Had I studied more before my baby's birth, I might have had an easier time at the beginning. This book is the perfect study aid.

I am an instructor of Natural Childbirth. This is the book I use exclusively as referece for my teaching and educating women on breastfeeding. Not that there are not other books out there on the subject but I find this one so thorough, so helpful, so complete that it is a handbook of necessity for all of my students/couples. For students/couples who do not have lots of time to read many books on a subject, I choose this one as complete for use. Behind this book stands an international organization of women (La Leche League) who make themselves available for help on a personal level through meetings and one on one help.

    Why I bought this book

    Created: 10/04/08
My daughter in law is a first-time mom, soon to give birth to my very first grandbaby. Since I breastfed my boys, and she expressed her desire to breastfed my grandson, I purchased this book for her. I attended LaLeache' League with my baby and found this book to be a trememdous help. I wanted to pass it along to her. I've found out that mothers can say anything they wish to their daughters, but mothers-in-law have to be careful what they say. I guess you could say I purchased this book because I wanted to be helpful, but careful. I hope she reaps all the good from it that I did and more.
