A Little Princess

Created: 06/03/11
This is the best of all the versions of A Little Princess. The Shirley Temple version was terrible and some others that came later were not much better. This was made in England with English actors and actresses, just as Frances Hodgson Burnett had set her original story. This is enjoyable for both adults and children and really gives a feeling of the conditions of the era.

A Little Princess

Created: 03/01/11
I was so excited to find the Wonderworks version of A Little Princess on DVD. We owned it on VHS and I hadn't found the DVD until recently. This version in my opinion follows closest to the book. It is told in a storybook fashion with the realities of her misery in it. If you like the book, you will definitely like this version of the movie. The one area in the book it is weak on is her storytelling ability. I would recommend this movie.

The Best Adaptation Of FH Burnett's Novel

Created: 27/04/09
I loved Frances Hodgeson's book a Little Princess and have seen many adaptations of it.
Although Alfonso Curon's 1995 film had higher production values and a much bigger budget, The BBC's 1986 series is by far the best, most under rated and least known. The acting, perticularly Amalia Shankleys titular performance is stunning. This adaptation also sticks much more closely to the original book than any of the big screen adaptations (most of which took a lot of liberties).
I was thrilled to find that this series had been released on DVD

Faithful and lovely adaptation of a classic story

Created: 11/12/09
Unlike every other movie version of "A Little Princess", this one is actually true to the book. There is no sugar coating nor is Sara's dad magically alive at the end of the movie. Even the fringe characters of the book are here. The casting is absolutely perfect. Amelia Shankley is exactly right as Sara. If you love the book, you'll adore the movie. Even if you haven't read the book and enjoy a good riches-to-rags-to-riches tale, this movie is a must. This movie captures both the elegance and the hardship of Victorian England. Highly recomended!

I love it!

Created: 25/05/09
I remember the first time my mother taped this a long, long time ago when I was just a youngster, and I loved it so much. This little British film is so wonderful. It's not just for kids - adults will definitely love this too! It will make you laugh and cry. It is one of the best Little Princess movies out there. It even tops off Shirley Temple's version, which I hate to say wasn't even close to being as good as this version. Also, the new (1995?) version was too childish for me, even though the cast was great. I thought this one had excellent acting, especially for it's time, and Amelia lights up the screen. I am so glad it's finally remastered on DVD now. However, I dislike the fact that they deleted some parts from the DVD version that is originally on the VHS version, and also cut the movie into several parts. Each part was less than half an hour and then the credits would show - it was unnecessary to do this, in my opinion. Other than that, Buy it, you'll enjoy it!!
