World Series of Poker: Tournament of Champions -- 2007 Edition (Sony PlayStation 2, 2006)

With the recent poker boom, cardrooms are springing up everywhere, including on your favorite video game console. The legislation passed by the U.S. Senate, making it difficult for the recreational gambler to deposit money to online sites, has people looking for alternative methods to get their poker 'fix.' I highly recommend WSOP Tournament of Champions for the Playstation 2 (also available on the other popular consoles). What better way for the novice to learn the game than sit down with the virtual defending champ, Joe Hachem, while being coached by none other than Chris 'Jesus' Ferguson. This is a great way to learn the fundamentals of the game, with tips from Cardplayer Magazine, supplemented with your favorite color commentary by ESPN announcers Lon and Chad. The graphics aren't the best, but the gameplay can be adjusted from regular speed to lighting fast, guaranteeing tons of action. So, give it a shot, create your own player and see how you rate among the best pros on the World Series of Poker circuit, as you try to become the player of the year!

World Series of Poker is a great game for the casual poker fan. It offers all of the most popular games in a true to life tournament setting. Many of the rules to the games hold true as going "All in" can make or break your day at the tables. I have found that many of the computer players have their own style of play and that makes the game a real challenge.

The game offers a few settings to speed up the play and as a result, you can play an entire tournament in under an hour (at least if you make it to the final table). You get advice on how to play during load up screens and from Chris Ferguson, a poker legend. After playing this game, I can't wait to get to the real tables and try my luck.

There are a few negatives, but none that you wouldn't expect from a computerized gambling game. The computer players occasionally bet poorly, but win on a last card draw when they had no business being in the game in the first place. It makes it very frustrating to have 3 aces and lose a hand because a computer with a 3,4,6 & 7 gets a 5 on the river. This makes it very difficult to bet big against the computer, especially in no limit hold 'em.

Get the game, if you like poker, you will enjoy it for countless hours.

This game is very cool. The graphics are improved. There are also a lot more pros in this years WSOP edition. This time you hit the WSOP circuit as a pupil of Chris Fergueson. He guides you through the satellite events, to the main event, and then to the Tournament of Champions. The only fault in this edition is that the career doesn't continue year to year, keeping track of the event champs. This is only a small minus really. The game is really awesome and addictive with not only the cicuit events but also heads up tournaments and invtationals, such as the HORSE event. GREAT game.

I really got hooked on texas holdem after watching poker after dark on NBC. This game features some of those very players I have the pleasure of watching every night. You will definately learn alot from this game and i look forward to their next version.

I recently purchased the game .... Its alittle slow but once you start you can't stop ... Personally I give the game an 8 out of 10 .... Only complant is they could have added more reall life poker players ...I do however like the create a player mode ....
