    Movie synopsis

This award-winning documentary, WTC: THE FIRST 24 HOURS, lyrically chronicles the infamous day of September 11th, 2001, when the worst terrorist attack on U.S. soil took place. A moving compilation of footage taken by independent cameramen, the film begins with horror and tragedy as, early in the morning, a 747 crashed into the North Tower of the landmark World Trade Center. Documenting the unspeakable events of the day, it still manages to end with a ray of hope--capturing the incredible humanity and generosity of the New Yorkers left behind. With no narration or music, WTC allows the footage to speak for itself, poetically reconstructing one of the most significant days in U.S. history. Two different versions of the film are included here: the first 11-minute version and the extended 40-minute version.

Fascination with Horror: The Real US Tragedy of 9/11

    Created: 19/06/06
Boys will be Boys, I suppose, with yet another "award winning documentary" of September 11th, 2001. Clearly an up close and personal exploitation of those who suffered, combined with a perverse and warped sense of having the sadistic need to witness the worst terrorist attack on US land. Reminds me of ambulance chasers taking video. But, that's what the public wanted as we were all fascinated and horrified at the same time. In Shock. In disbelief. We just had to look. Now we still seem to have the need to look some more through films like this one. I critiqued it & burnt it. I never want to see such violent & traumatizing images again in my life. Don't know about you.

Children should not watch this movie. It is too graphic, re-traumatizing & violent. People with PTSD should not watch it either for the same reason(s).

There's nothing moving about it; we've seen it so many times in the mad NYC mass media gushing with it that it's just another repetitious piece of propaganda for the war against Iraq. "Be Afraid, Be Afraid, Be Very Afraid" is the underlying message.

As it says on the cover of the DVD jacket, "the film begins with horror and tragedy." So put it with the horror films where it belongs & not with the documentaries. Will it ever end? Or does the Bush government depend upon the fascinating horror constantly broadcast by the mass media to keep its fear tactic ongoing? These are the messages this film leave me with. Very serious questions. This is not entertainment.

All of us who saw the nauseating footage can feel angry & fearful for the rest of our lives. Or maybe we can feel like soldiers & firemen are heroes, instead of everyday people who are doing the jobs they bargained for, accepted the rights, benefits and privileges of, when they signed up for them.

Anyone can sign up to "blow sh..," up as G.I. Jane says. Anyone can become an extreme risk taker who does firefighting work. It depends upon one's true intentions. This film doesn't get to those. This film doesn't make any of us heroes because that is what our jobs were. Putting ourselves in harm's way is not the only way to be serving our country nobly and with distinguished honor. To pursue nonviolence and diplomacy is more noble in my values system.

To follow the US, British, and Spanish leaders into a senseless, unjustifiable war that has zero to do with 9/11 isn't exactly smart or heroic, either one. Excuse me for saying so. It's how I come away from this film feeling, however.

While I feel extremely sad for all of those who loved people who lost their lives in political-religious bombings by Saudi terrorists, I've lived a lifetime without a living father too. So I know personally what it's like; this is no excuse for our government to lead our country into the ground, astray from our peace-loving values, and allow documentation of them passing as documentaries to actually be horror stories.

I found this movie to be a sentimental exploitation of all and any of the world's citizens who became victims of an international tragedy and horror. To make a film of that, to sell DVD's of that too, seems really sickening to me. Forgive me for writing the truth about my responses to this film here. I sincerely hope that you don't have the same experience if you to watch the film. I put myself in a child who lost their parent shoes and this is what I felt.

    Nothing I Want to Watch

    Created: 10/04/10
When Michael Moore made "Fahrenheit 911," the best thing he did was keep the screen blacked out during the terrorists' attacks. Eight and a half years later, this movie doesn't contain one frame of film that I could bear to watch.

I don't need anything at all to remind me of the images I saw on September 11th, 2001. Nor do I need a soundtrack to remind me of the horrifying sounds. I feel very strongly that the types of people who would find any value in this film are those who participated in the creation of the catastrophic events of that date.

    Who Needs Reminders?

    Created: 21/08/10
I am not one who will ever need to be reminded of what the Bush administration allowed to happen to our nation for 8 long years that we have still not recovered from.

This movie makes me angry at the American people who put that kind of executive branch of war profiteering in office. That's what this film represents to me: The Bush Adminstration's Plundering of America.

As a voter, in 2010, I have not forgotten who is responsible so I don't need to be reminded by watching the scenes of horror depicted in this DVD.

Dont listen to the first post!

    Created: 21/09/06
This is an excellent documentary! There is no commentary or political bias in this film in fact there is no narration! This doc captures the first 24 hrs right in the middle of the chaos that was 9/11. If you are looking for a first person view of the events on the ground in a raw manner, you have come to the right place.

Awesome nonpolitical documentary for Historical Records

    Created: 19/01/11
Sorry to those offended by this tragedy in US History. We all should be. But, if you'r too close to the content, Don't Watch!

Don't watch eyewitness footage of the Kennedy assassinations. Don't watch eyewitness footage of Pearl Harbor (we were in peace talks with Japan when they hit us unprepared). Don't watch eyewitness footage or pics of the atrocities of the Nazi Regime shot by the liberating troops. Wait for Hollywood to "clean it up for you". They will only alter the facts for the sake of the movie, or the audience, or the box office dollar.

George Santayana wrote in THE LIFE OF REASON (1905-1906) vol. V "The picture we frame of the past changes continually and grows every day LESS SIMILAR to the original experience which it purports to describe." And in vol. 1, "Progress...depends on retentiveness. When change is absolute...and when experience is not retained...infancy is perpetual. THOSE WHO CANNOT REMEMBER THE PAST ARE CONDEMNED TO REPEAT IT!"
