Movie synopsis

In the 1980s, professional wrestling vaulted into its golden age with the help of a roster of colorful personalities both in and out of the ring. This documentary recounts the contributions of the managers who worked behind (and, sometimes, in) the scenes to transform wrestling into the pop culture phenomenon it is today with a collection of clips and highlights featuring Captain Lou Albano, the Grand Wizard, "Classy" Freddie Blassie, "The Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart, Bobby "The Brain" Heenan, Jim Cornette, and Paul Bearer.

WWE - World's Greatest Wrestling Managers (2006, DVD)

Created: 08/09/07
Excellent DVD which examines all of the Managers who guided their proteges to stardom in the WWF and later the WWE. Some of the Managers discussed were Golden Boy Arnold Skaaland, Captain Lou Albano, Classie Freddie Blassie, Mr. Fuji, the Grand Wizard, King Curtis Iuakea, Bobby Heenan, Reverend Slick, Sunny and many more. Longtime fans of the sport will certainly enjoy this DVD as much as I did as the archival footage will definitely renew some memories of "significant happenings" in wrestling during the past four decades.

Where's The Beef?

Created: 20/07/06
I enjoyed this DVD, but thought it could be drastically improved to a level far superior than what it is now. For starters, Tod Grisham should not be hosting this (let's just thank our lucky stars he doesn't narrate it as well). Secondly, it seems that a lot of the interviewing was done in character. I feel that everyone was taking the idea of a manager as serious, rather than looking into the people who became some of the famous and beloved manager's we witnessed over the years of professional wrestling. While we do get brief glimpses of some managers early days, the lack of true biographical information (personal and wrestling) makes this DVD falter. Anyone who has seen The Greatest Wrestling Stars of the 80s might have a hard time fully enjoying this particular release. It's a very brief account of some of the more well known managers - there are no stories about who they really are, where they came from, how they broke into the business and how they achieved fame. It is interesting to see some clips of the early years of professional wrestling and some of the faces that helped make it what it is today, but this could have gone way deeper than it did. The bonus features are decent, but not the best. There are some matches involving some of the managers, but the bulk is promos. People who crave action over interviews/promos won't enjoy this part - diehard fans of old school material will eat this up, especially if you were young enough that you've never before gotten a chance to see some of these stars' work. You would think the world's greatest managers would get a world class DVD production, but I feel this DVD flops far more than rises to the occasion. Not the most engaging watch, but definitely not the worst WWE outing to date.

Old school WWF

Created: 08/03/07
It was good to see some of the old managers on this DVD (especially some of the females that started it all, like SUnny & Miss Elizabeth) and Lou Albano, the Grand Wizard, Freddie Blassie etc. Id say an avg DVD release not real long or going into a lot of depth. and some material that was on previous releases.
overall id say rent not buy.
