Movie synopsis

Based on the long-running Marvel comic book series, X-MEN takes place in the near future, as certain humans are evolving into mutants with special powers. In the Canadian wilderness, a young runaway mutant named Rogue (Anna Paquin) and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), a bad-tempered, quick-healing mutant with retractable metal claws, are suddenly attacked by the powerful Magneto (Ian McKellen) and his lackeys. Fortunately, Cyclops (James Marsden) and Storm (Halle Berry), students of the compassionate Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart), interfere and bring them back to Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. Here Wolverine and Rogue learn more about the conflict between Xavier and the militant Magneto, who wants to power a device that will genetically alter humans, with possibly deadly results. Only Xavier's students can stop Magneto's plans. Director Bryan Singer (THE USUAL SUSPECTS) displays his expertise with an ensemble cast, accomplishing a feat by making the first live-action film about an entire group of superheroes. Hugh Jackman's portrayal of the ill-tempered Wolverine is dead-on, while Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are ideally matched in their Martin Luther King, Jr.- and Malcolm X-like roles. Smart and well-paced, X-MEN towers above most comic book movies.

Birth of the X-Men on the Silver Screen

Created: 18/01/08
As the opener to a new medium for the ever-popular Marvel comic book heroes X-Men this movie sets the stage while showing off some of the goods. I like that Bryan Singer is an intelligent director who realizes his vision with respect to the material AND the audience. Not everyone may have known who this band of rogues were but they DO now. I believe all the actors & crews tasked to tell this story did a fine job.

Some unfortunates in my opinion are that stories like this get updated & adjusted due to theater screen time, who gets which spot in the casting list, who looks the best in costume, and misses "essential" parts that aren't decided on by the fans. I was also disappointed that the characters seemed confined when it came to who they were....if you know the comic books you know what I mean...it was like they'd been sanitized just to sell toys. Commercialism at it's best I guess.

All in all, this movie has a great story to tell. The graphics truly enhanced this super-hero tale and the focus on the story as a whole was well thought. The location shots really helped add to the "real" of this movie. It showed that there really could be a scenario such as this right in your own neighborhood. This factor is a plus for a story of this type. Believing in the characters and their situations. Good story telling and a soundtrack to keep the emotion relevant. A keeper by far if you buy it. Well worth it's weight for all types of movie-goers. The second disc is great for more avid fans of the X-Men & the process used to bring this to the screen.

The Princess and One-eyed Wuss

X-men was pretty good, especially if you'd never heard of the X-men. The problem with action films are that idiots are writing them. Put explosion here. Put nude scene here. Done.

There's so many cool things you can do with the x-men, I don't understand why you would cripple so many good characters. Why do you claim to love the art you rape? Is that harsh? I think Rogue has disgusted us all from beginning to end. I accepted she was young here. One more movie and she'll be flying and stealing powers like mad. Nope. Still gay...

Cyclops though, for those who don't know, this guy was the best leader you could ask for. The X-men respected cyclops. They cut off his ba...

well, whatever

The look is amazing, Toad couldn't have been cooler. Too bad he died. He actually goes on to lead the Brotherhood (underwater?) I know it's hard, to compile so much material but don't just make some stuff up, that's egomaniacal.

Mystique, Professor X, Wolverine, these were done pretty well. Storm improved, but I still always liked her. Why am I reviewing this? Everyone has seen this movie. Sigh.

A good movie adaptation of the classic Marvel Comic

Created: 16/09/07
X-men 1.5 is a DVD that was released in 2003. It is a special edition dvd that was released right before X2 hit the theatres. It is a 2 disk collection.

Disk one contains the origional X-Men movie and disk two is full of great little ad-ons and information/sneek preview for X-2.

The directors did a great job in capturing the essence of the comic books. Every character is bang on. Some, like Cyclops, do not have as much of a role as they did in the first movies. I'd like to say this is a great movie. :)

That's a lot of leather!

The movie is absolutely awesome! I loved how they portrayed the comic characters into live action. The leather suits made me snicker, and wonder how they moved.

The one thing I disliked about it was the Extras Menu. Trying to navigate was a pain and you have to turn on the deleted scenes BEFORE you watch the movie.

Otherwise, this was a fantastic movie!
