A Great Comic Video Game

Created: 19/09/06
This game is great for many reasons, but it's the gameplay that really makes this game great. You'll play as Wolverine the entire game, but you'll run into a lot of other X-Men characters along the way - friend and foe. Let's start with the basics before jumping into details:

Sound: Sound is good and the voice acting is alright.
Controls: The controls are very easy and at times, the screen will prompt you to hit certain buttons to execute certain moves.
Graphics: The graphics are decent for the three versions of this game (XBOX, PS2 and GameCube). While the visuals aren't super stunning, they're good enough to keep you from gasping at them.
Story: Story isn't anything too gripping, but since you'll end up fighting a slew of super villains as a result, you won't care.

Ok, so what's great about this game is that you're not just running around and killing or beating down opponents. You can use stealth if you want, much like you can in games such as Splinter Cell. You can use Wolverine's animalistic senses to help you accomplish your stealth. You'll be able to see footprints or odors in the air to lead you to (or away, depending on your game plan) the enemies. You can sneak up behind the enemies and when you get close enough, can execute a variety of finishing moves. My person favorite is when Wolverine stabs the enemy in the leg, pulls him down and then pounces on him to finish the job. There are a great variety of these moves and they differ pending on where you are and such. Don't go thinking this a game like Splinter Cell or Hitman, where you have to sneak about to win. At times, yes, the stealth is actually necessary, but if you so choose to run about like a psycho in a slaughterhouse, go right ahead. If you choose to just flat out combat large groups of enemies, then you'll find that the feral mode is just what you're looking for. It will increase Wolverine's speed and strength for a limited amount of time...perfect for when you find yourself surrounded by over a dozen soldiers wielding guns. The levels are long, so sometimes you'll get frustrated if you die at a point near the end. Each level is basically trying to find your way to the end while avoiding death from the basic enemies. Pretty much at the end of every level is a boss battle. The boss battles mainly consist of fighting the X-Men's super villians like Magneto, Sabretooth, Wendigo, etc. The boss battles are nice because you're not just running around and avoiding their attacks while executing your own. Instead, there are little tricks to taking down and hurting your opponent. This game is definitely challening and can keep you busy for quite some time. Also, you'll be searching each and every level for the hidden unlockables. The unlockables include artwork, comic covers and alternate costumes for Wolverine - the alternate costumes are fun because you change them whenever you feel and sometimes it's nice to play in the classic Wolverine costume.

I recommend this game to anyone who likes action, fighting or combat games. You don't necessarily need to be an X-Men fan, but if you are....well, you'll love this game. I really couldn't think of a single way to improve this game.

Comic Book Fun...R-I-P in to it!

Created: 13/03/07
Woverines revenge has got to be the best comic book adaption to date. How can anyone not feel great satisfaction the minute Logan rips through the frist bunch of lackeys.Combat is a joy standard attacks (slashes-with claws out punches with them retracted) kick combos and jumping attacks not to forget uppercuts and sweep kick when crouching.....and then there is the stealth attacks. You have 3 choice with the stealth, full stealth using all Logans senses heat vision smell sound represented with color wash effects and sound, holding down the small black button and your in standard stealth no senses just steady quiet stealth and then theres crouching stealth low profile movement enble you to sneak up on the enemys quicker than the standard stealth...And it all works brilliantly.
STRIKE...STRIKE...STRIKE nope 3 strikes and you a'nt out in this game but you got your self some blooming cool finishing moves..You start the game with 1 set to begin with and unlock 3 other sets by collecting dog tags from each stealth kill or 1 dog tag for each three man strike, each set of strike moves get more gruesome and satisfying as they are unlocked.
I have seen criticism about the level design but to be fair to the designers the first levels are sent in a bleak facilitatory in the canadian wilderness what where they expecting is a flippin hidden military research base it an't pretty it an't supose to be pretty ,its gritty and fitting for its environment.
Altogether the levels rum well look good and fit with the style of the comics.

Wolverines rage power bar works well but can get annoying when your going for your upteenth three man strike and arrrrgh you go feral and rip to bits the three guys your lining up on but with further play it can safe your butt in tight situations.
Sound works fine its a kind of predator meets arnie's terminator sounds and strangely it fits with Wolvie fine.Voice acting rocks and works well Mark Hamil
does a good job but sometimes he slips into "Adrian Ripburger" from LucasArts Full throttle one of Hamils other Voice credits but for the most he sounds great.
The graghics fit nicely with the comic book origins and no I've never seen a psone or n64 game that looked nearly as good as this game so ShUTT iTTT!...
animations are great and work well..

I really liked this game it has its faults but name one game that hasn't,as far asbeing the best Wolverine game todate this is it just the best....to date..

Different, yet great

While the graphics in the movie sequences of the game leave much to be desired, that is really the only problem I have with this game. Unlimited extra senses, seeing the enemy's scent trail and heat signature are only a few of the great advantages to help you defeat the enemy.

As I saw someone else say in another review, it's nice to be able to use ALL of a mutant's powers in a game for a change.

X-men:Wolverine's Revenge really delivers. I would recommend it to anybody...

Logan, try not to kill everyone this time

This game will keep you busy. Wolverine is one of my favorite comic book heroes. This game gives Wolverine a chance to get his revenge. I can sneak past the guards or I can kill everyone.

The game was alright but there was one error on the disc that kept me from seeing one of the screen cinematics.
