    The perfect soho printer

    Created: 21/07/09
Short of spending 2-4 times the money for the 8560/MFP, this unit really has it all for 99% of applications.

First of all, you just can't beat the solid ink wax transfer technology, dubbed 'crayon printers' when they first appeared on the market from Tektronix (now part of Xerox). Compared to Ink Jet or Laser, it is hands down THE most convenient and produces photo quality pages. Postscript doesn't hurt either, so if you do DTP, you get everything you need in one package.
The only drawback is the wax process, as some people do not like the slick feel and being wax one cannot write on it. The printers require a warm up period to bring the wax up to temperature and after X numbers of minutes of no printing the heaters automatically are powered off. Once you get over that and embrace this 30 year old technology that has developed into a state of the art system, you will probably chuck all your Ink Jet printers convert to Xerox crayons.

The cost of running a crayon printer is very low and considerably less than the HP 88 cartridge based business printers which rule the inkjet world when it comes to cost/performance in business applications. But like every other printer company, you are buying a box that needs to be fed and the profits for printer companies are in the replenishables, so just like HP with their 13 million different cartridges, Xerox changes the shape of the crayons with each new model series.

WARNING: Do not buy the noname ink; they appear to be made from wax sucked out of the ears of Chinese Civet Cats.

This printer is fast, prints outstanding and accurate colors and a work horse. Solid ink produces glossy prints on reular paper. Since there are less moving parts there are less things to break. Go for it, you will not be sorry.

    xerox 8560

    Created: 09/01/10
Faster and better quality printing than the 8550.

    Well behaved.

Don't have to change ink very often.

Quite tolerant of the different papers we like to feed.
