Movie synopsis

The Girl Skateboard company has a sizeable reputation, and this fascinating documentary illustrates all its virtues. With infamous director Spike Jonze (ADAPTATION) on board, alongside cohorts Ty Evans and Cory Weincheque, this is a skillfully filmed look at one of the most prolific skateboard teams around. Some breathtaking footage involving camera trickery and Jonze's unique imagination ensues, including a startling invisible skateboard sequence, and an appearance by actor Owen Wilson. Upping the ante for skateboard movies, YEAH RIGHT! deftly combines skillful direction with some incredible skating.

Yeah Right

Created: 07/07/10
Yeah Right! is a skateboarding video by Girl Skateboards (featuring Chocolate Skateboards), directed by Ty Evans and Spike Jonze. Yeah Right! is notable for its soundtrack, length, and the extensive use of never-before-seen (in a skateboarding video) special effects.

A short prologue pays tribute to skater Keenan Milton, who died in 2001. Milton was part of Chocolate Skateboards team, a subset of Girl Skateboards.
The introduction credits for the video feature a unique series of shots in ultra-slow motion, filmed with Jonze's personal camera that is capable of shooting 100 frames per second. The camera is low to the ground and very close to the skateboarder as various flip tricks are completed.
Although Yeah Right features mainly skateboarding, there are many special effects used. There are several different scenes in between skaters' parts which make use of green screen technology like the infamous "invisible skateboards" bit and other camera effects such as the "magic board" and the "Skatetrix" bits.
A cameo is made by Owen Wilson. He is in a parking lot with Rick Howard, Eric Koston and Mike Carroll preparing to perform a trick on a handrail. By framing the camera very carefully, it appears that Wilson attempts the extremely difficult trick (a backside bluntslide). However, while the camera was facing the opposite direction for a moment, Wilson had slipped out of the frame and is replaced by Eric Koston who is wearing a wig and matching clothes. Koston performs the trick down the staircase and Wilson reappears in the shot after Koston lands to make it look like he completed the trick.

YEAH RIGHT!!!

Ok well I have had 3 copies of this and this is my 4th, and let me tell you it is that good. This is the movie that got me into skating, this was my generation of skating. This is seriously my fav. skate video. First you got Biebel coming out of the gates with his manny skills and killing it. Plus the video was shot by Spike Jonze (who also is part owner of Girl Skateboarding Co.) and Ty Evans (who also shot the Hot Chocolate video, and they are the sister company to girl). They took it to another level with dissappering boards, the dramatically slo-mo in the begining which is awesome, made invisible ramps so you are left wandering how he ollied back 50-50 up a 5 stair rail. You also have the magic board segment which is one of my favorites, where you get to see Girl skaters and their friends passing off the board from one to the other in different clips, and at the end Mike Carroll breaks it, and it magically comes back together and sails off into the sunset with a very catchy song. Not to mention ERIC KOSTON's last part, and I would say that this part is what skating is about, I think it is his best part ever (not to mention his part in Lakai Fully Flared was crazy too, also if you like this go pick up Lakai Fully Flared, great filming on the Panasonic HD camera's.) Koston has a 5 part ender mentioned by actor Owen Wilson, (who plays a small skit in the movie, hilarious), and let me tell you this is skating at its best, and his last trick which is my two favorite tricks combined and I did not know that it was possible to even do them, but for Koston anything is possible. I'm not going to tell you what it is, you will have to see for yourself when you buy this incredible piece of skate history, in fact by 2, because you are going to wear out the first one.

Yeah Right! by Girl Skateboards

Fantastic video by Spike Jonze and Ty Evans. Spike explores a lot of ideas that he'd not had the funding for before. Invisible skateboards and the like. Highly recommended. Filming, editing, soundtrack and the skateboarding is incredible.

wicked awesome

if you love skateboarding, then you'll love this skatevideo. heck, you don't even have to like skateboarding to be able to enjoy watching this video. i watched this with my dad who does not know anything about skateboarding, but he enjoyed watching it. from a skaters standpoint, yes. this video is awesome. the thing i liked most about this video is that it was actually long. i've seen so many skatevideos that were AWESOME skatevideos, but 90% of them were short in time and they sort of left you with a feeling of "aw, is that it? i wanted to see more." YeahRight! has more than enough skateboarding and it combines new effects not seen before in skatevideos which keep you interested in it. that's another downfall of other skatevideos, you lose interest from seeing the same tricks over and over, even if all of them are rad. anyway, the whole Girl/Chocolate line-up of skaters rock. there's not a single one of them that isn't fun to watch. look out for Gino's part, it's totally sick. Gino has got to be my favorite skateboarder of Girl/Chocolate right now.

HOFS! review on the YEAH RIGHT! video

Created: 22/09/09
This has to be one of my all time fave videos. It never gets old and is always entertaining to watch. This is one of the best vids from one of the best skate teams in history.

I have played this video during family events and/or parties and it entertains ALL. Even people that don't care to much for skating are entertained and amazed of the varied styles, the little skits, the soundtrack and the filming.

If you have not seen this vid yet, what are you waiting for? GO, go now and watch it. It will not disappoint. I guarantee it!!!
