You Got Served (DVD, 2004, Special Edition)

Chris Stokes, Marques "Batman" Houston, Omari Grandberry|Theatrical release: 2004 | Rating: PG-13 (MPAA)

Movie synopsis

Dedicated to the art of street dancing, YOU GOT SERVED features some of the most talented and prominent kids on the scene in a drama filmed in the streets of Los Angeles. The picture opens at the warehouse of Mr. Rad (Steve Harvey), where dance battles take the place of actual fighting. Elgin (Marques Houston) and David (Omarion) are childhood friends who are determined to make a splash in the world as street dancers. But when they lose a battle to a rival crew from Orange County, and when David finds himself falling in love with Elgin's pretty sister, Liyah (Jennifer Freeman), a heavy strain is put on their relationship. This is compounded when Elgin gets jacked selling drugs for a dangerous crime lord, while David was busy sipping milk shakes with Liyah. Eventually, another tragedy forces David and Elgin to put aside their differences and come together to win a contest that will make them $50,000 richer and land them in a video for hip-hop superstar Lil' Kim. Written and directed by Christopher B. Stokes, YOU GOT SERVED is a perfect venue to showcase the superb dancing talents of the now-defunct group B2K.

The ORIGINAL dance movie!

Excellent dance moves. Impressive acting skills 4 first timers the group B2K(no longer 2gether)The drug dealer scene is a little cliche but, the dancing is awesome! Also several dance coaches from "So u think U can dance" and Stomp the Yard were present in the movie and did most of the choreography. My son and all his friends love it. There are a few choice profanity words that go by quickly if U're not paying that much attention. This movie actually has a plot as well. Not a great 1 but worth keeping U're attention!

You Got Served Got Game!

I am happy to say that I loved You Got Served. The music was new and moving. Marcus, Omarion and ooh!, that "fffffine", Jennifer Freeman brought this film to life. I dance and wanted be on the dance floor with them. Despite the criticism of these fools who know nothing about the world of dance and music, the premise of this movie could have actually happened. People criticize what they don't understand. Peace!!!!!!!

I think all of these dance movies were impressed with how successful Save the Last Dance did in 2001 that 2003-2009 had so many (Honey, You Got Served, Save the Last Dance 2, Dance Flick, etc) thought they could do the same. I think the problem with those versus Save the Last Dance, was that they unlike STLD, did not have a moving, dramatic plot, and as a result grew predictable. Sure there were "cool moments" but none extremely impressive. It also didn't help that most of the predominant cast was from the R&B group B2K-I'm a fan of their music, but by having the movie center around them, you limit yourselves to viewing in the movie of B2K, the group and it takes awhile to take them seriously as actors. When you do take them seriously as actors, you fall face down as the main protagonist is the lead singer (again...predictable).

I watched this for free--in my middle school after finishing an assignment early. The second time I watched it was in my grandmother's home, while my other older relatives played cards--shows you how unattentive they were. The movie was ok, I only bought it off ebay because I played less than $5 and had free shipping. The purchase, was actually for my mother.

Amazing Spectacular to see

Created: 07/11/10
i Love this movie because it is one of the best break dancing movies i've ever seen, they even manage to put in a good plot and the whole movie just becomes a treat to watch, it also has tons of replay value. I recommend this to anyone who likes breakdancing or even just watching it even if you can't break dance like myself. I wanted to buy this after viewing it once on tv and i decided it would be worth the money to get!
