Movie synopsis

Carl Peterson (Matt Dillon) and Randy Dupree (Owen Wilson) have been friends forever. But everything changes when Carl marries Molly Thompson (Kate Hudson) and best man Dupree becomes the third wheel. Free-spirited Dupree's antics suddenly seem juvenile and Carl has to decide where his loyalty lies--with his new wife or his best friend. Still, when Carl discovers that Dupree is down on his luck--he's lost his job, his company car, and his apartment--he invites his best buddy to move in until he's back on his feet. Unfortunately, Dupree isn't exactly Molly's idea of the perfect houseguest. This perpetual bachelor is really an overgrown kid who moves in with a giant moosehead, likes to sleep in the buff, has some unpleasant hygiene issues, and treats life like one big party. Despite Dupree's inability to grow up, he has a good heart: he's just trying to find his niche and enjoy every day along the way.To make matters worse for Molly, Carl has become a cranky workaholic since his boss, Molly's father (Michael Douglas), promoted him. Disheartened by her new husband's late hours, Molly begins to spend more time with Dupree and to see his softer side--something that even Carl has never been aware of. Carl, meanwhile, begins to resent his lackadaisical friend and to question his motives. Ultimately, it's up to Dupree to get Carl and Molly back on track. Wilson gives Dupree a puppy-dog quality that makes him immensely likable, even when he's screwing up. Dillon is surprisingly funny as the straight man in the duo, trying to balance his old life with his new responsibilities. Supporting actor Seth Rogen is a hoot as Carl and Dupree's friend, Neil, who desperately wants to be his own man but is completely under his wife's thumb.

You, Me and Dupree

Created: 16/02/08
You, Me and Dupree manages to keep us mildly amused, mostly due to Owen Wilson’s infectious charm. But unlike some of his other comrades in comedy, a lot of Owen doesn’t necessarily spell success.

Story
Ah, the unwanted guest. It’s been the subject of many a movie. You know the kind: Messy, doesn’t respect your privacy, stops up the toilet, has sex with someone in your living room using butter and nearly burns the house down. That’s Dupree (Wilson) to a tee, and for newlyweds Carl (Matt Dillon) and Molly (Kate Hudson), having Dupree in their house is downright disastrous. At first, Carl is psyched to have his best man as his couch guest while Molly is less than enthused with Dupree’s well-meaning antics. But when Molly starts feeling abandoned by Carl’s workaholic tendencies—as he, in turn, tries to impress his demanding new father-in-law (Michael Douglas)—suddenly Dupree’s good-natured personality and carefree wisdom is comforting to Molly, much to Carl’s chagrin. But don’t fret. This three’s-a-crowd scenario will work out some kind of resolution, as the loveable guest shows how a little inner Dupree-“ness” might just be one of life's hidden secrets.

Acting
With Dupree, Wilson is attempting to break away from the buddy comedies he’s known for, such as Starsky and Hutch and Wedding Crashers, in which he mostly plays the pithy straight man. There are definitely moments of true Wilson brilliance in Dupree, especially when he’s avoiding a building security guard by throwing “seven different kinds of smoke” at him. But playing off someone slightly wackier than himself is really Wilson’s forte and in trying to carry a whole comedy on his own, he’s not nearly as successful as say, Jim Carrey or even Jack Black. It also doesn’t help that Hudson and Dillon aren’t able to pick up the slack. Hudson is appealing as the beleaguered Molly, and Dillon seems to be getting better looking with age—but together, they are one big ball of bland, especially Dillon, who is sorely miscast as the straight guy. On the other hand, Douglas does a nice turn as the overprotective daddy who can’t let his little girl go.

A MUST SEE!

If you haven't seen this movie then get off the internet and go get it! This is one of my favorite romantic comedies. It is full of great actors like Kate Hudson, Michael Douglas, Matt Dillion, AND OF COURSE OWEN WILSON! Carl and Molly (Matt and Kate) have just gotten married, purchased their first house, and are ready to start like together..JUST THE TWO OF THEM...OR NOT! Carl's friend Dupree shows up, moves in, and causes lots of funny trouble. 3 really is a crowd! This movie is amazingly funny and a must see!

You, Me and Dupree (2006) Movie Review

Created: 25/08/07
Film Needed Ben Stiller.....Sorry Matt!

There's something "right" about the Owen Wilson/Ben Stiller Duo that just wasn't there when Wilson paired up with Matt Dillon in You, Me and Dupree. I kept wondering if Stiller had other obligations and turned the film down. Matt Dillon can do comedy, as in the sleazy character he played brilliantly in There's Something About Mary, but he seemed miscast as Carl Peterson. Kate Hudson was her usual charming self and always a pleasure to watch. Randall Dupree got into a little too much mischief and mishaps for the film to be even somewhat believable. Wilson provided some funny scenes but the surprise humor came from Michael Douglas as Dillon's sarcastic, controlling father-in-law. The storyline was moderately entertaining, but over-all, I expected to enjoy You, Me and Dupree more than I did.

Dupree!

This movie is hilarious! I really enjoyed it. I will definitely be buying this for my collection eventually.

This is definitely one of Owen Wilson's best performances yet. Dupree (Owen Wilson) moves into his best friends house (who is newly married), and drives them crazy. Dupree is a slacker-type who is trying to find a job, but not totally serious about it. Some of the things Dupree does to drive his best friend crazy includes breaking the toilet downstairs (and in turn really stinks up the upstairs one in the couples' bedroom), tapes over their cute answering machine message and puts his own message on there, sleeps in the nude, and so many other things.

If you are an Owen Wilson fan then this is the movie for you!

There are people like Dupree in the world! This movie is alot of fun engaging and at times down right hysterical..I loved the toilet scenes! Owne Wilson is adorable in this film..Kate Hudson is just plain amusing with a double dose of sexy..Matt Dillon however I feel is too old to play Kates Hubby..Kate wasn't even born when Matt was a teen hearthrob back in the day..still this movie is alot of fun..Not a film for the wee ones..anyone over the age of 13 will enjoy this flick..beware there is a butt shot..LOL I love this film!!
