Movie synopsis

Academy Award-winner Jim Broadbent stars as Alfred Salteena, an elderly man of 42, who falls in love with young Ethel Monticue at first sight. To impress her, he treats Ethel to a visit at the sumptuous country house of Lord Bernard Clark, the only lord Alf actually knows. Their ensuing adventures in London's colorful high society reveal the young author's alarmingly keen insights into class, the foolishness of adults and the power that young girls have over men.

Interesting Movie

Created: 12/04/06
This movie is interesting because it is being told by a child who wrote it. One of the stars is Hugh Laurie (TVs House M.D.), one of my favorite actors. Almost a bland role for him though. Story did seem to go on and on when it could have been made faster moving. Movie is basically about a love triangle and how it unfolds. Good acting but very slow moving story. Took me three times to get through the whole movie, slow story line usually made me want to go take a nap. But the acting is good and the story get better towards the end of the movie.

Bill Nighy? Yes, please!

I have yet to see a movie with this brilliant actor that has not moved me in one way or another. Whether it be with his amazing sense of comedic timing or his ability to reduce me to tears with a deadpan expression, he brings an enormous amount of talent to any role he chooses to take on.

I feel that his hair should have gotten credit as a supporting player in this movie, as it is nearly as alive and energetic as his performance.

Oh yeah, the other cast was pretty swell too, but when you play opposite Bill Nighy you are bound to be upstaged.

The actors and acting were good. Didn't like the kind of sad ending.
I bought it because I like Hugh Laurie.
