Great Beginners Quilt Book
Created: 11/06/09
A truly great quilt book for beginning quilters. The book lives up to the title.
The book is well organized and illustrated. It starts with quilting language and what the various quilting terminology means and ends with binding the quilt, which includes straight of grain binding and bias binding and what type of binding is suited for a particular quilt. In addition, at the back of the book there templates for a variety of patchwork shapes and some quilting designs.
Carol explains choosing your fabic from solids to prints; large prints to tone-on-tone; color values and intensity and illustrated with color pictures furthering her explanations. Of course rotary cutting and tools of the trade are explained along with everything else you need to know. She even explains and illustrates how to look at a quilt made by someone else and create and reproduce the block the block designs.
The eight projects in the book are all designed for the beginner and a gallery section presents the projects in color. Then, each project is presented with clear directions and illustrations in black and white, including the projects, enabling you to decide the color combinations and match the end result to your decor.
I love this book and have given it for gifts to budding quilter family and friends. I would recommend it to anyone wishing to start the adventure of quilting.

I purchased this book by Carol Doak because I own another book by her, easy to read & great instructions. My 79 year old mother has wanted to learn to quilt... so I thought this would be a great book for her to start with. Together we are going through the book following instructions we have made the pillow & table runner. We are currently working on the Irsh Chain. We are having a lot fun & laughs!!!! This(book)was a fantastic purchase for me!!

A very easy to read and follow instruction for someone who wants to learn to quilt. I am a tailor, not a quilter, but was asked to teach someone to quilt and I picked this book up in the library. Then I decided to buy it and use it as the book to teach from. The book has black and white drawings in it as illustrations. If it had pictures I would have given an excellent rating.
