Movie synopsis

This animated feature is steeped in the mythos of the Yu-Gi-Oh card game, Manga comics, and television show, which should make it a hit with fans. The plot concerns teenage gaming wizard Yugi Muto (vocalized by Dan Stuart) who, having merged forces with an Egyptian pharaoh since he solved his grandfather's cosmic puzzle, now rules the universe as the king of "Duel Monsters" card players. Meanwhile the evil Egyptian god Annubis has been wakened from centuries of sleep and is slipping hot cards to Yugi's arch rival Kaiba (Eric Stuart) in an underhanded bid to destroy the earth. Robots, knights, sphinxes, a plethora of different dragons, wizards, cute girls, and even clowns get in on the act--appearing, battling, merging, exploding, and dissolving as the labyrinthine rules of the game dictate. Some expository encapsulations are provided for the newcomer, which is good, as fans will be too busy cheering at all the monsters, explosions, bodily humor, strategizing, and teasing put-downs to explain the finer points of the dueling system. The film also serves as an unveiling of several important cards no serious player can afford to be without. Some of the flashing light effects and monster-style violence may be a bit much for very young and/or epileptic viewers.

Great movie to wrap up a terrific anime TV series

Created: 07/01/09
I bought this movie a short while back. It is based on the original hit TV cartoon series Yu-Gi-Oh. This series took you through the life of a young card duelest who's mind was inhabited by the spirit of an ancient pharroh teen who helped him to battle other duelests. These duelests used special cards that had dueling monsters and special abilitiy features on them. However, as it was shown throughout the series and carried into this moview, to be a successful duelists takes more than just knowing what the cards can do. It also took having trust in your friends and loves ones and believing in the heart of the cards. This movie brings the cartoon series to a spectacular conclusion. For dedicated fans of the original show, it is all you can ever hope for. It makes you wish the original series was still around. A new spin-off series called Yu-Gi-Oh GX took over the card dueling show phenomenon that was the original series. While a lot of the same duel monsters are there and some new ones, the characters in this new series aren't as endearing as those characters in the original series. If you like this movie, you may want to go back and get the five Yu-Gi-Oh seasons on DVD. Some of the seasons are broken into multiple DVDs. They are wonderful to watch again and again as is this moview.

Yugi at the movies

The one we got had the Sorceror of Dark magic with it so my kids were very impressed. We then watch the movie - "welcome to a world of mayhen, a world of chaos, a world of Toons Kaiba Boy".Jonah can recite the entire movie and we also have both the pyramid of light and the Exclusive promotional pack of YuGiOh cards which has all the New monsters and spells from the Movie in. This way we can reinact the movie Jonah and I. Yes he wins. And as a wicked step dad I am the evil god Anubis.

The favorite is the Yu-Gi-Oh Monster Challenge: Memory Game

There are also two music videos that the children really enjoy. It does not hurt to keep an extra video at Grandma or Grandpa house.
