BIOGRAPHY:

Heinrich Friedrich Wilhelm Gesenius (1786-1842), German orientalist and Biblical critic, philologist, exegete, called father of modern Hebrew lexicography, produced and edited numerous scholarly works, papers.

Emil Rödiger (1801-1874), German orientalist, Halle professor, brought out The Fables, Chrestomathia Syriaca, Versuch über die Himjaritischen Schriftmonumente, and completed the Gesenius Thesaurus of Hebrew.

Half leather over forest green buckram boards that are rubbed, lightly scuffed, soiled, and worn at fore-corners; spine has five raised bands, front hinge is scuffed, and backstrip has gilt title. Endpapers and page edges are marbled; ink inscription top of front flyleaf, and a few circular purple Christ’s College, Aberdeen stamps. Binding is tight; scattered foxing.
