Very rare, original, 1860’s Civil War period Stereoview Photograph of the exterior of Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor showing the debris and destruction resulting from the first battle of the Civil War. This wonderful, original flat mount stereo photo measures approx. 6 3/4" by 3 1/4" and is mounted on its original, yellow colored card mount. The View is copyright 1865 by the photographer James W. Campbell and identified with printed text on a pastedown label on the reverse that reads "War Views / No. 211 / East Face of Fort Sumter, showing Palmetto Fortification, Charleston Harbor.".

This fascinating, original Civil War Stereoview Image features a fascinating view of the debris field on the east side of Fort Sumter with twisted Iron beams but with a strong and intact Palmetto log wall at the top of the rise which was erected by the Confederate occupiers during the War.

Fort Sumter is a Third System masonry sea fort located in Charleston Harbor, South Carolina. The fort is best known as the site upon which the shots that started the American Civil War were fired, at the Battle of Fort Sumter on April 12, 1861

This fantastic and very rare, Civil War Stereoview Photo is in good to very good condition. The Photographic Images exhibit sharp focus and good contrast and tonality although both are just a bit light. There is soiling and foxing to the images and soiling and edge wear to the card mount.

A very rare and wonderful, 1860’s Stereoview Photo of Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor and a fantastic addition to any collection!!

Important Notes about Shipping Charges:

The amount quoted for Shipping & Handling is calculated by eBay and is equal to the EXACT amount charged by the Post Office plus a $1.00 "packing fee" - the $1.00 fee is our only compensation for the virgin packing materials we use on all of our professionally packaged boxes as well as our cost for the salaried help that does most of our packing - as I am sure you can see, we make NO profit on the Shipping charges and, in fact, our costs are usually greater than the $1.00 fee. Please contact us if there are any issues regarding the cost of shipping.
