1864 Lincoln Presidential Campaign Token R-9 GEM

FINEST KNOWN!

This 1864 campaign token is likely the finest known of this variety. Fauver lists it as Lincoln-1015 / Eagle-1065 and gives it an R-9 for regular copper and gilt copper. Ours is gilt copper. Incidently, all other varieties of this type has reeded edge. This one measures 27mm, and has plain edge. This type of token was also used by Civil War soldiers as a gaming piece (ten dollar gold piece) in lieu of genuine gold coins. This is a real sleeper piece for the 1864 Lincoln Presidential Campaign. Bet none of your buddies got one. A special piece in beautiful condition!

When R9 is rated 2-4 known, I cannot possibly imagine a higher grade piece than this exists. This is a real monster!
