Boat competed in the 2000 Lake Tahoe Concours d’Elegance.

This boat presents beautifully and will not disappoint.

History and Restoration:

Known history as far back at 1978 indicate the boat was always in California and only used in fresh water.  It passed hands twice and in 1999, it was purchased and began a complete restoration with focus on keeping to the boats classic look, styling, and hardware while making the boat useable for the long-term via modern materials/restoration techniques.

Extensive workmanship was all done professionally by Classic Marine of Sacramento.

The depth of this restoration is impressive.  Begun in April 1999, the work took over a year and was completed in late August, 2000.  Previous areas of neglect or poor workmanship were not tolerated to remain on the boat and the work performed essentially resulted in a new bottom, deck and hull sides.

A complete cold mold restoration was performed.  The entire hull was de-planked.  After repairing and reconstructing frames and battens, an Ocoume marine plywood “skin” was epoxied to the rebuilt wooden superstructure.  New planking was then laminated to the table under skin and faired true.  This method and process of lamination stabilizes the mahogany planking, forever eliminating its tendency to expand and contract with atmospheric changes.  Because the planks are not cracking, the finish will last much longer and look nice while it ages because moisture can’t undermine its integrity through the normal cracking traditional planks suffer from shrink and expand.

The laminated bottom was covered with a 12 ounce Nytex fiberglass cloth saturated and laminated with epoxy over the cold molded hull bottom.  It was then primed with an epoxy primer and finally painted with high quality marine polyurethane bottom paint suitable for complete submersion.

The list goes on….  All restoration efforts are documented with receipts:

Boat cost (April, 1999):  $8,500

Restoration costs:  $99,280

Custom Tandem Axle Trailer:  $2,891

Total restoration investment when completed in August, 2000:  $110,671

Post restoration, the boat was used only in fresh water on Lake Wildwood and Lake Tahoe.

Boat has been stored under boat cover in a locked warehouse in California.  Boat cover is in excellent condition and is included with sale.  Boat has not been started or placed in the water in approx 4-5 years.  Thus, engine servicing and inspection is recommended prior to water use.

Important note:  I am helping a friend’s family sell the boat.  I am not an expert on classic boats and neither is the family.  The family acquired the boat in late 2003.  Title of both the boat and the trailer are clear and in the family’s possession.  The boat is currently located in Alameda, CA and is available for your inspection prior to bidding end.  The goal is a win/win sale.

Terms:

  • Reserve is reasonable and is less than 1/2 the total invested in the boat.  Reserve will not be disclosed at any time.
  • Upon conclusion of auction, a deposit of $2,000 is required within two (2) days of auction end.
  • Payment in full is due within ten (10) days of auction end.
  • If at any time between deposit made and full payment becoming due you are not satisfied the boat is consistent with the pictures and description used in this listing, winning bidder may withdraw from the sale and receive a partial deposit refund in the amount of $1,500.  The family will keep $500 of the deposit amount for their time and coordination efforts.  Failure to complete sale per full terms of this auction will result in full deposit amount being kept by the Seller.
  • Boat must be picked up by Buyer or Buyer’s shipping company within 30 days of auction unless other arrangements are agreed to by Buyer and Seller in writing.
  • Auction may be ended early at any time for any reason without notification.
  • Offers will be considered.
  • All money must be received in full and all funds cleared prior to title or possession transfer.  No exceptions.

SEE ADDED PICTURES AND MORE INFORMATION BELOW:

A couple of weeks ago, I pulled the rear seat up and looked in the engine bay.  All workmanship looks very cleanly done and correct.  I also saw the boat has a redundant 12v battery system (nice set-up).  I pulled the batteries and they took a charge which has held for a week.  So, today I re-installed them, found the battery switch, put in the key, and the boat came to life!  Amp and fuel gauges moved and horn and all lights work as they should.  Spotlight control knob on the dash rotates the spot as it should.  I also found a toggle switch under the dash that opened the engine bay door.  It worked perfectly.  I tested all this on battery "1" and then switched over to battery "2" - all worked as it should.

With the engine bay door open, I was able to get pics.  Thus, today I added pics of engine bay to this listing.  I have more pics for those who are serious (and please be serious if you request).  I can be reached at 510-919-5024 to make this request or for other questions.  Note:  I did not try to turn the engine over.  As it has not been started for 4-5 years (as previously noted), I would want to do a more serious fluid and fuel check before doing that.  This said, I saw nothing that would indicate a problem.

The steering wheel is showing some minor cracking.  It is still very presentable and fully functional as is (I'm just being a bit picky on this point).  While not a boat guy, I have owned them in the past and I'm a kinda serious car guy (currently have two cars restored to Concours condition).  That last comment offered only for perspective about me, I can honestly say that after crawling around the boat today I'm even more impressed with it.  Nothing anywhere is cheaply done or flimsy looking.  All the work in the engine bay, bow storage area, under the seats, and , compartment, undersides of the boat look correctly done with very nice fit and finish.
