Description	Camaro power steering gear box, variable ratio 2-1/2 turns lock to lock. Steering box is completely dissembled, rebuilt and reassembled. Date coded steering boxes are available in the NOS & Rare parts section of this website. TECH TIP: Turning the steering wheel from lock to lock will give you the steering ratio. This is achieved when you turn the steering wheel all the way from right to left and count the revolutions. The lock or stop occurs when the steering arm comes in contact with the ball nub welded to the lower control arm. Fast ratio manual steering or power steering will turn 2.5 turns from lock to lock. Fast ratio steering comes from the longer pitman arm, shorter steering arms and the fast ratio steering box. You cannot install only the fast ratio steering box to get fast ratio. The steering arms must be the short versions and have original casting numbers 3902519 & 3920520 (1967-1968) or 3954876 & 3954875 (1969) See the photos in Heartbeat City part# FEP-1149 or FEP-1150 to view an example of the fast ratio steering arms. All fast ratio manual steering or any power steering car comes with the shorter steering arms from the factory. The fast ratio pitman arm in 1967-1968 was cast 3908391 and 1969 was cast 3953227. Fast ratio power steering pitman arms measures 5-7/8 inches and the fast ratio manual pitman arm measures 5-3/4 inches. The pitman arm is longer, therefore, it moves the centerlink further which in turn moves the short steering arms faster. Power steering pump and related parts illustrations and diagrams are shown in the Factory Assembly Manual under UPC N40 A-1 to A10, See A-10 for Mandatory Assembly Procedures.
