as a gift for winning the
BIG 8 CONFERENCE
The first point that must be made about this photo collage is that it shows a picture of one of the actual
1982 Big 8 Championship Rings
that was awarded for this Big 8 Championship. And, it must be noted that players, coaches and staff members received this ring as their main gift.
1982 was the FOURTH Big 8 Championship of the Tom Osborne Era at Nebraska.
This Photo Collage contains three pictures and history of this
Here is a
SHORT HISTORY OF NEBRASKA CHAMPIONSHIP RINGS
The first ring of the modern era was issue in 1963 when Nebraska won the Big 8 Championship and a Ring was given to the Players, Coaches and Staff Members. The top of that ring was a sculptured replica of how Memorial Stadium looked in 1963 and there were no seats in the end zone. At that time in 1963, the seating capactity was 31,080.
Then, Nebraska won the Big 8 Championship in 1964 and as the main gift a "Plaque" was given to the players, coaches and staff members and no rings were issued in 1964.
Then, Nebraska won the Big 8 Championship again in 1965, three years in a row, and a Trophy with a Football and 4 Players were given to the players, coaches and staff members and no rings were issued in 1965.
In the meantime, in 1964 Devaney started to expand the stadium and in 1964 the south end zones were added and the seating capactity increased to 44,829.
Again in 1965, Devaney did some stadium expansion and the stadium increased to 50,807.
And again in 1966. Devaney expanded the stadium by adding seats in the north end zone and the stadium increased to a capacity to 66,644.
Then the top of the 1966 Big 8 Championship Rings shows the replica of the Stadium as it appeared in 1966 with both end zones completed and a seating capacity of 66,644.
But then, in 1969 the ring took on a different look and the top said
BIG 8 CHAMPIONS
Simply an amzing ring.
Then, in 1970, the ring was even more amazing because it said
Then in 1971 the top of the ring simply said
The diamond in the middle of the ring is a quarter karat diamond and a red ruby stone in back of the diamond.
The ring is 10k Gold.
This ring was made by John Roberts
Then in 1972, even though Nebraska won the Big 8 Conference Championship, no rings were issued. The reason for this is because Oklahoma had to forfeit a couple games because the NCAA found out that a player was playing in game and he was not eligible. Thus, Bob Devaney did not feel rings should be issued when they won the Big 8 Conference Championship because Oklahoma had to forfeit some games.
The next ring was a 1975 Big 8 Championship Game, and this was Tom Osborne's first Big 8 Championship.
The Next ring was the 1978 Big 8 Championship Ring
Then, the next ring is the 1979 Orange Bowl Ring and this was the first time that Nebraska Players received a Ring from the Orange Bowl as a gift for playing in the Orange Bowl. They also received a 1978 Big 8 Championship Ring, so this was the first time that the Players received two rings in one year.
The next ring is the 1981 Big 8 Championship Ring.
Then, for the second time, the team received a Ring from the Orange Bowl and this was for the 1982 Orange Bowl game.
That brings us to the present ring being offered in this lot and the next ring in this series, which is the

There is no evidence of rings being issued to players prior to World War II. We have never talked to any former player who had a ring that was issued to the Players. In the past, Letter Sweaters, Jackets and Medallions were given out, even blankets and steins were given out as lettermen gifts and Conference Championship Gifts
- but no evidence of rings -
We continue to do research in this area and if we find any evidence of any rings issued to Players prior to 1963, we will certainly pass this information along to all the great Nebraska collectors out in Husker Nation.
If any collector has information about any rings issued prior to 1963, let us know so we can document this finding for all collectors.

All items are shipped by delivery confirmation. In case of damage, all packing material must be saved and contact us and instructions will be given. In the majority of cases, we will ask that you return the item for a refund.
All items shipped to Colorado requires that we collect Colorado Sales Tax. Thank you for your understanding.
On Auction Style Listings we request payment within 7 days via paypal
On our Fixed Priced items, we request payment when you check out and use the Buy It Now Option.
This will soon be a new policy on Ebay
We accept payment through paypal.
Based on the
policies of both Ebay and Paypal, items shipped domestically and
internationally must be shipped with tracking information. This requires
that an item be shipped by priority mail. The cost to ship a little
envelope is now almost $30.00 and it increases for size and weight. We
realize it is expensive to ship from one country to another, but those
are the rates handed to us and you must be willing to pay them if you
bid. We will not ship by First Class Mail because tracking is not
available with this type of shipping. We wish there were more
financially feasible ways to ship from one country to another and still
have tracking to protect both the buyer and seller but there are no
other options at this time. Even Flat Rate Priority does not offer
tracking. So, please understand that we will follow the policy of Ebay
and Paypal and ship with tracking - which means we only ship by Priority
Mail to other countries and this is expensive. If you bid, please
consider and understand these costs.
We also must
clearly state that our shipping charges do not include other fees that
you may incur, such as custom fees, duties and taxes that your local
country may impose on all packages coming into the country. There is
also often delays in international shipping. We cannot control how long
it will take for an item to arrive.
Please Note: To help everyone understand our type of business we need to inform bidders that we sell used items, our items come from people and individual collectors and not companies. The items are not new in the box and nothing we have ever sold has been perfect or mint. We try and list any major defect - but every item has been used and will show degree of wear. And, sometimes it is hard to describe the degree of wear or use and everyone's perception and standards are different. So, if you are concerned about specific details of any item, please email us and we will try and answer your questions. We say this because some people believe that when they buy items on ebay they expect them to look new - even if they are 50 years old. So please understand that our items are old and used and none are perfect.
