BGA Repair History
If you are new to this kind of repair it started when the RoHS came in effect around the 2006 era.  With new bga chipsets requiring much more solder leaded solder would be a big pollution problem.  Motherboards that have more powerful gpu's which run hot like nvidia or ati would be prone to fail because of the following issues with lead free solder required to be used. 

• Higher melting temperatures which mistakenly lead to operators increasing equipment operating temperatures. Higher operating temperatures do not make the process quicker, they actually slow it down.
• Poor wetting and spreading properties – Additional time is required when working with lead free solders, they do not spread or wet like lead containing solders do. Operators must slow down.
• Difficult to work with - Bridging and insufficient solder defects are common, even for experienced operators, leading to operator frustration.
• Dull grainy finish – makes inspection difficult.

My repair vs. possible other repairs
A quick search on youtube, say dv6000 or tx1000 repair, will show light bulbs, $20 paint remover heatguns, torches, I think even a candle which will not provide a permanent solution.  This will create a temporary connection of the solder that was not before.  This is because there is no way to actually get the solder melted. 
I use Hakko lead free solder compatible equipment which has the power needed to do so.  The equipment needed is an infrared board heater which allows the gpu to safely reach the temperature it needs to be at to melt the solder between the board and gpu without the board warping/bowing from uneven heat, bubbling from overheating, and will not damage the plastic components/connectors on the board while using indirect infrared heat.  Top heater with gantry system which allows for precise placement for the hot air station nozzle. 
With this system a profile is set up to raise the temp in stages to a max of 230c keeping it and the entire board free from damage.

• No boards with previous repair attempts are accepted, if you do not know the history of your board contact me before ordering(some repairs are accepted, contact me with questions)
• If you have opened your laptop and had done any upgrade, i.e. apply new thermal paste, new cpu, new heatsink/shim kit, contact me before ordering.  A $5 packing and handling fee may apply to any board I do not deem fit for repair
  
• If your laptop stopped working after a fall or liquid spill this repair will not work
• If there are no problems with your board a $15 diagnostic/testing fee will be deducted from the refund
  
• If I receive any board with 4 blink, pause, 4 blink error code(which is not a gpu related issue) a $5 packaging and handling fee will be deducted from the refund
  
• The warranty does not cover shipping costs*
