Why have I dropped the price on this boat? Despite all the phone calls and emails, no one has actually flown in to see the boat or the get a survey. I do not want to put this boat in storage again. I have reduced the non-refundable deposit to $1000 to make it more appealing for someone to bid now and fly-in and survey before the balance is due (7 days after close of auction). Please also note that I will NOT leave negative feedback if the balance is not paid - this is an expensive purchase and if you get cold feet after bidding- you only lose $1000. But I will definitely leave negative feedback if the deposit is not paid. I will offer the boat to the next bidder with the same terms. My offer to contribute bottom paint if the prospective buyer pays for haulout ( about $1000) is still valid- up to $600 of bottom paint AND application. Basically I feel like if I have to go through the fuss of an out-of-water survey and a possible collapse of an offer that it should be worth $1000 for the trouble. Up for sale is my beloved endeavour 51 "Southern Light" based in Miami Beach. I'm a Canadian boater who also loves the Bahamas. I bought this boat three and a half years ago and ended up getting carried away with a major renovation (I have more than $90,000 in receipts available for viewing) - fresh interior including 3/4" Brazilian cherry hardwood floor, teak panelling, new foam upholstery and counters, new canvas, new running rigging, as well as a high-end professional paint spray (Imron Dupont) for the hull.
My girlfriend and I then sailed off for a wonderful four months in the Bahamas. We spent another two months there last winter then stored the boat up the Miami River. After listing with a broker for $129,000 18 months ago, I decided to try and sell the boat myself. We travelled down from Vancouver to Miami eight months later in January 2014 and ... the engine wouldn't start. – stuck rings? Stuck valves – clogged injector pump? I’ll never know – because in the end I did a major ebuild - $5000 in costs including $1500 injection pump rebuild, head regrind, new valves, new injection tips and rebuilt injectors, new rings, all new cylinder liners/sleeves. This boat would make a great livaboard or cruiser for a couple with or without children. It is refreshingly bright and spacious instead of darker and cramped interiors found on some sailboats. It is economical to run and is strong and safe in big weather. It is huge inside, with almost 7' headroom in the main saloon, and sleeps eight in 3 doubles and with two single berths.
Our beloved Caribe was stolen this winter, but we have replaced it with a 2011 hypalon Achilles with a 2011 Tohatsu 4 stroke. Please research the market. I believe this is probably one of the best deals available anywhere on a boat of this size.
On deck, you will find an exceptionally well planned cockpit and helm area. The helm station is positioned aft of the "social cockpit area" and being higher, it affords the helmsman excellent visibility forward. Forward there is a split anchor locker and immediately aft is a generous sized sail and gear locker. The rig offers a full battened main and furling head sail. The placement and count of deck hatches provides for excellent "below decks" ventilation. As you descend the companionway, you enter a very generous salon area (fitted with recent new upholstery and foam cushions) and generous lighting, to include two large port lights at eye level (when seated). Immediately to port of the companionway, is a large walk-through galley equipped with a four burner propane stove, refrigerator and generous storage. There is full door access to the engine compartment (opposite the galley sink). The owner's cabin has large port lights aft, good closet, shelf and bin storage. To starboard is the master head that offers a separate stall shower. Moving back to the salon, just to starboard of the companionway is a conveniently placed quarter cabin with a dedicated navigation desk. There is plenty of space to add electronics. Going forward, to port is a second head and just opposite to starboard is a large storage locker with space to organize tools and supplies. Forward is the "queen center" berth that has good lighting and head room. Keep in mind that forward of this cabin (on deck) is the sail and anchor lockers, so this berth / cabin has much more space than one typically finds in a forward cabin. Southern Light is roomy and offers an owner the opportunity to create / develop many of the locker spaces into very functional storage areas. For someone looking for a vessel to spend extended time aboard, Southern Light has the volume to meet one's needs.

Important points to consider:
Canadian registered vessel – but U.S. made therefore no duty. But new buyer is responsible as usual for any sales taxes, fees, etc. i bought the boat from a floridian, and it can be re-licenced in the United States easily – I have the last Florida licence in hand.
No inboard diesel generator or air-conditioning - there were two air-conditioning units but one has been removed and the other should be considered inoperable but the plumbing and thr-hulls are still there for future use. Current generator is portable 2011 honda 2000
Mast height is 66.5 feet - please know the possible limitations of bridges in the area you are interested in.
-No Holding tank. Wasn’t a factor for us in the Bahamas but must be addressed for American waters. My guess would be for under $1500. There is lots of room for the tank - it would probably be a three day job.
-Some limited electrical work is still needed…final tie-in of helm station to engine (oil and water gauges are in engine room – must be re-set to helm station. Also some indicator lights and gauges need servicing at electrical panel
-there are small leaks from hatches and portlights – one needs simple recaulking, a portlight needs a fresh membrane/gasket , etc.
- the three year old windlass has recently jammed and I am having trouble getting it removed - my fear is it will need a motor rebuild- could be a couple of hundred dollars ....or more.
-bottom scraped but needs new paint. I will paint if a potential buyer pays haulout for survey.
-Dockage is available in the south florida area. Delivery beyond this region is possible for additional fees. Delivery is not included in price. Panama to Vancouver by ship - $20,000. Houston to Seattle by truck $13,000.

A: Hi there, the third cabin, aka the navigation station is represented by a still photo. When my girlfriend shot the video , we moved a bunch of stuff into this room to prep for the video shots and we forgot to film that room - it is a single berth that could definitely be easily made into a double Windlass is electrical. Toilets are manual - the aft one is one week old Cheers

Q:I was curious of this Endeavour's fuel & water tanks. Many designs have them in the keel sump where water can sit and corrode the keel. Thanks, Doing research as well to how this years boats were configured.12-May-14
A: Hi there I'm afraid I don't know the answer to your question - all tanks were flushed in 2011 and there are no signs of corrosion - ie the water and fuel is clean coming out. Keel appears to be held with massive stainless steel bolts and nuts in the bilge - they seem fine. If there is any info I can provide by looking around below the sole please let me know
Q: hello Im vipp aka norm very close to making offer on boat I found 2 shippers over land for $10500 from Florida on GS 47 . However like you boat as well or better. I own a small marina in Newport beach (sail club) however is little tight for this boat,so i'm checking into moorings near by and hope to be ready to talk Tuesday . A:Texas to California would be cheapest truckng route I think. One trucker added $3000 if picked up in Florida. Miami to Texas is a straight forward sail. Your choice

A:Thanks for your email. I have single handed on occasion - it is possible but lines lead to cockpit not helm station- they could be rerouted and keep in mind autopilot has a remote controller to make tacking easier. Lazy jacks make the mainsail a one-man job.

A: Thank you for your enquiry- Florida licensing includes a %6 sales tax there is also a licensing fee. Holding tank equipment would be less than $1500, plus labor. Re-connections of gauges and alarms should cost less than $1000 in labour- perhaps even half that. All other equipment including chartplotter, air conditioning generator etc I consider options and costs can vary widely. Please phone me to discuss specifics.

A:I stored the boat up the miami river behind a private home for $400 but expect to pay up to $500 for non-livaboard and much more at a marina. Further away from miami the cheaper - the florida keys have some potential spots. I am happy to help deliver for free in the local area. Craigslist has various listings
